No, but I found that I expected perfection from myself because it seemed that that is what was expected to be a "good JW". There seemed to be no room for error.

They expected perfection from me, so I was a little suspicious when I was told that I wasn't supposed to expect perfection of other JWs.

I did not expect perfection, but I certainly expected far better behavior than I did from "the world." My real awakening to how much the JW's were just like everyone else occurred in the summer of 1986. I had just gotten laid off from a place where I had worked the past 8 years and this elder/brother, who owned a auto upholstery repair shop, hired me to work for him. His company included his wife, son and daughter-in-law. He had some nice contracts with Hertz and Budget rental services and when they were ready to sell their rental cars, they would call him and give him the license number of a car that needing repairing and what the problem was. My job was to go to the airport and remove the seats from the cars and bring them back to the shop where they were repaired.

On several occasions the son and father would get on the others nerves and call the other a "jackass", "butthole" or even "shithead". You can imagine what effect this had on me as I was totally shocked that an elder would behave in this manner. At the hall, he was the most mellow of the elder body and was the best at the door during field service. I guss all that pent up agression had nowhere to get released except during work hours. I remember once the mom tried to intervene and the father said "Shut the hell up! It's your lax discipline that's allowed him to get to this state."

    Don
