In his book, "The Hot Zone," Richard Preston believes that as humankind decimates more and more of the rainforest, we will come into contact with even more deadly viruses than Ebola and Marburg.

He speculates that the potential eradication of humans by these virulent and deadly viruses may be the earth's way of stopping the predation by humans of who-knows-how-many plant and animal species.

There is a little known science called Ecology, and industrial civilization is run in almost complete disregard of it.

Permaculture is a "technology" developed in the 1970s that uses ecology as a design process to align human activities more closely with natural systems.

It is possible to increase biodiversity and provide for human needs too.

It is possible to restore fertility to land damaged by poor agricultural practices.

It is even possible to turn deserts into productive forests based on the design principles of Permaculture.

Permaculture has been successfully put to use all over the world, but...

industrial civilization does not like competition.

Industrial civilization would rather eat the planet and shit it out its tail pipe instead because that is the most profitable thing to do.

The technology and know-how already exist to care for the planet and the human family, but it is unmarketable, puts human needs ahead of corporations, and actually involves work.

Therefore, it hasn't got a chance.
