Heh, a little play off of the old 'ruining the earth' thing.
We have the potential to run it. But, we have an awful lot to learn about it, first. We are basically, just beginning to learn. Then too, we need to develop a lot more technology. We won't get weather control in our lifetimes.

"The Earth has a skin and that skin has diseases, one of those diseases is man." -- F. Nietzsche.
we have the pontential to ruin very small areas of it and have....but is is an incredible healer....i am not worried...it seems like a pretty dang impressive design........oompa
It is sad, the way we decimate species. This is something that needs reversing.
So far, we work only in what corresponds to the dead part of the skin, where the skin flakes form a protective barrier. We may get deeper into the earth, later. I seriously doubt that we have any deleterious affects on planet earth itself, even w our deepest mines, in s africa. At any rate, we are a natural evolutionary product, a novelty of a higher magnitude. However, we are in our in fancy, learning to walk. We are still attempting to find our way.
The point in learning about the earth, and firstly primarily, about ourselves, is to work in harmony w and improve natural processes.

Nope, mostly just running our mouth, powered by a very low voltage brain.

The surface environment of the earth IS very tough and resilient. That's because what remains at this time has come through not a few catastrophic events. The fragile stuff simply got wiped away. Some new stuff has evolved, though.
