Entertaining Angels

    quote from Rutherford book Enemies:

"Satan is a spirit creature, therefore invisible to human eyes; and also angels are spirit creatures and invisible to human eyes" (p.34)

In Bible scriptures, "angels" have made appearances to humans. Gabriel appeared to Daniel; angels appeared to Abraham, Joshua, Ezekiel, Lot, and others. These "angels" looked like people. There is no mention of them being gigantic or having wings, or being transparent, or being polterguists. As a matter of fact, they didn't look any different from other people.

If you believe that Hebrews 13:2 is truthful, then some have entertained angels without knowing they were angels.

How does WT reconcile their stand of invisible creatures when the Bible scriptures declare that angels are visible?

Your question reminds me of a magazine (forgot the name) that once ran an ad as a prank. The ad was an "if-the-President-drops-in-for-dinner" kit, complete with a flag and a recording of "Hail to the Chief." Many people tried to order that nonexistent kit.

I don't know what the WTS official stance is (if they have any), but it might run along the lines of "things were different in those days." When Jesus supposedly rose from the dead, he was able to put on the appearance of a man, but he was no longer mortal (according to the dubs). He performed miracles, too, but you don't see those anymore, either. Everything the dubs claim have happened in the heavens in the last 100 years has been "invisible." How convenient.

I wonder what an "if-Jesus-drops-in-for-dinner" kit would contain -- foot-washing equipment, casual clothes so he would "blend," unleavened bread.

    Hi cameo-d,

It (WT) says the angels materialized or 'put on' a body like our own.

In that way, conversations can be had, meals eaten, struggles/fights take place.

If they could "put on" a body like our own, it makes you wonder -- did they have to defecate and urinate like us? Did they get BO if they didn't bathe? Could they catch a cold or leprosy? Could you give them a black eye? Could they be killed?

Or was it just a body-like appearance? If so, what happened to the food they ate?

Some mornings, I wouldn't mind being able to "put on" a different body from my own.

Does WT have an explanation for HOW they were able to transform?

Did they have to drink blood to become human; after all, the life is in the blood.

Do you think that's why people had to give so many blood sacrifices? Maybe the angels were drinking the blood so they could transform?

    On angels having wings, see: Exodus 25:20, 1 Kings 8:6-8, Psalm 18:10, Isaiah 6:20, Ezekiel 1:5-11, 23-25, 10:5, 8, 12, 16, 19. Angels are often depicted as flying, cf. Revelation 14:6.

Wow, didn't see that coming. Drinking blood? You're headed for weirdo world here, cameo. Besides, you know the WTS doctrine about blood. Those angels would have been DFed on the spot for drinking blood.

You think I am weird for asking?

What about the Baptists, Lutherans, Presbyterians, Methodists, and all the other groups that have their little ceremonies where they pretend to drink blood and pretend they are eating human flesh? Of course, they only use grapejuice and crackers, because it's just pretending. Parakeet, you don't find anything weird about that?

Yes, I think the eating and drinking of blood (or their substitutes) is weird. Angels drinking blood -- even weirder. If they're spirits, how could they drink the blood to begin with -- they don't have mouths. Just as Jesus could (allegedly) increase the fish and loaves magically, so could angels also just "go poof" and they have a body. The mechanism by which they become corporeal is unknown (even in the Bible). Poof!--they just appear. This is starting to sound like something from a low-budget sci-fi film.

You said the Bible said angels are visible, but it doesn't say they're visible all the time. They're only visible when they want to be. BTW, I don't believe angels exist.

BTW, I don't believe angels exist.

Do you think it's possible that they exist by another name? Like, oh I don't know...maybe....aliens? Or ET's? Or "Advanced Beings"? A rose by another name?
