Satanus...there we disagree...the universe is amazing beyond description....in some ways so simple yet incredibly complex at the same time....your opinion is unique in my lifetime so far...i respect it, but has anybody ever heard that opinion before?........oompa

Satanus: "Things are always blowing up. Things are always ripping outher things apart, not just in earth jungles, but also stars on stars and galaxies on galaxies."
Destruction allows for the creation of other things. One of the few comforting thoughts as I get older is that my death and the death of my generation will make room for the young to thrive.
Natural disasters allow the same thing -- there is no earth so fertile than that left by a volcanic eruption. For thousands of years, the flooding of the Nile, though destructive to anything near its shores, left behind good land for farming. Forest fires clear old growth so new species can take root.
Even stars blowing up may be the beginning of planet formation. Yes, it's all messy and random, but necessary, too. Destruction and creation are two sides of the same coin.

Yes, there is a lot of beauty, perhaps from the mix of light and dark, creation/destruction/creation, the mix of spirit and gross matter. And, of course, i'm here, a part of it. So, i accept it. But, from a spiritual point of view, the material universe is a tough teacher.

Satanus, you might like this quote from Star Trek TNG. The character "Q" is commenting on space exploration.
"If you can't take a little bloody nose -- maybe you had better go back home and crawl under your bed. It's not safe out here. It's wondrous -- with treasures to satiate desires both subtle and gross -- but it's not for the timid."
