Here's some curious info about YMCA:

The YMCA idea, which began among evangelicals, was unusual because it crossed the rigid lines that separated all the different churches and social classes in England in those days.

George Williams was knighted by Queen Victoria in 1894 for his YMCA work and buried in 1905 under the floor of St. Paul's Cathedral among that nation's heroes and statesmen. A large stained glass window in Westminster Abbey, complete with a red triangle, is dedicated to YMCAs, to Sir George and to Y work during the first World War.

Note the "red triangle/pyramid" on the British currency.

I can only coment about my local YMCA here in the UK

I wouldn't know what "declaration" you have to make to become a member, but I can tell you that there is no restriction on who can use the fascilities.

This may be the real reason the Society doesn't approve:

I'm a member of a society which has affilliate membership of the YMCA - we aren't a Christian group and we aren't asked to make any declarations. Since an affiliated group doesn't ned to be specifically Christian (or even theistic), I doubt whether an individual has to be. On the other hand, if a Christian ethos is written into the articles of association, by becoming a member, you are effectively assenting to those articles, whether or not you actually agree with them.

What kind of doublemindedness does it take to criticise Y membership for someone who wants a place to swim, while being A-OK with UN membership for a library card?

For me, it's more about compromising my integrity and beliefs to stoop to agree to something I do not believe in, just to get the 'reward' of pool use. It would be a betrayl of my values.

They don't subject anyone to preaching, as I know of...but as Sad Emo said:

Tempest in a teapot. I looked up several Y membership applications on-line - they are standard health-club formats. Go have a good swim and get over yourself.

So, in a roundabout way, you're in agreement with the JWs on this one?
