Amaxing skenery. I'm not a world traveller, although i've seen a few places. Been on those guided group tours that went through hawaii, stralia, fiji and nee zooland. I have also done the driving thing, discover as you go thing through the usa, belize, mexico and guatamala. The latter is a better way to get the feel of places and people. It's tiring though. Don't know if it's the way an old person would want to travel. Maybe, if they were using a winnebago type vehicle, where they have evrything on board.

We live on the trail where it crosses into Washington State from Oregon. We have hostels and our local PO is a main postal drop for hikers, I've met many who have started at the southern extreme and are most of the way to their goal, Canada. The 25 year olds look like their 35 !

Very cool, Satanus- Your style of travel is appealing- not old-people-ish! I travel in the same way.

I've seen Argentina for a few weeks and Switzerland for a week. We used to go to England for a month each summer when we were growing up- that was neat, got to see a lot of the UK.

Other than that just many places in the US and some in Canada... would like to see more of Mexico and South America. In particular Patagonia... :)

My hubbs and I are going to do a bike tour of Ireland for our honeymoon when we I finally graduate from college... Summer 2010. I hear biking from bed and breakfast to bed and breakfast is a great way to go, stop in at pubs and distilleries along the way as well.

Gregor- you seem to be very down on exercise! Weren't you the one who was talking about how running always ruins your back?? btw- I backpack for weeks and run marathons -and I am 33 and look 25!! :-D

I'm sure you were just joking ;-)

    also- very cool map, Gregor.

J.D. -that is a super cool rock, I am sure it would be a great hike.

Megadude- yes, Yosemite is quite the destination- I really love it there. Just make sure to stay out of the valley- yikes! I was there this past November (or October??) and it was the last day of camping at Curry Village and it was STILL packed... man. I have friends who poo-poo it and say "WELL, if we wanted crowds we would just go to Yosemite..." very snarky. But if you get more than 40 minutes off of the trailhead you are alone in some of the most beautiful country EVER.

Most of the John Muir Trail has the splendor of Yosemite. even more inspiring in some places, I think.

Not me. Nor am I down on exercise. I think when I see these young folks they have been living pretty rough for weeks and don't look their best!

I've done a fair amount of hiking myself in the High Sierras and Yosemite trails.

CIMG0937.jpg picture by beksbksI have that goofy look on my face, because I am inches from the edge, outside the guardrail. But is that not awesome?? I love Yosemite.

Ah! Sorry Gregor... and yes... one can look a little rough after a few weeks on the trail... :-) the high Sierras are my favorite place.

BTS- I have never been to the everglades... I have always been interested in going and doing a canoe tripthrough the cypress swamps... neat-o. --Did you know that the cypress trees, even though they live in the water record flood events in their rings? The fresh influx of water has different oxygen isotope values and those are incorporated into their rings. See?? you live in an AWESOME place...
