Damn! I saw the title of this thread and thought it was about cute fundy girls and their new-found interest in oral sex...
ex-JW Christians Suck!

Gee, Mike,
I'm kinda dissapointed in your thread title. I know Ex-JWs with no belief in any religion at all that suck. But what makes people suck, Ex JW, Christian, Athiest, Agnostic, whatever, is the type of person they are. Doctrines and religion may come and go in a person's life, but people are who they are. No denomination or belief structure can cover that up.

Mike,
I'll throw in with those here who have expressed the idea that it is not a persons religion that makes them "suck". Saying ex-JW Christians suck is the same as saying Christians suck, or ex-JW's suck. It's not really fair is it?
But I know it's hard to get through the obviuos hard-headedness of many former JW's. But the same can be said about former members of many cult's like Catholics, or conservative Jews, etc. The phenomenon is not unique to ex-JW's.

Mike - I know what you mean too. However, each has to follow their own path. Lately I have been combining Christianity and Cabernet - kind of a new bordeaux style meritage blend. Works for me at this time in my life... ;)

Since I have founded my own Board, I can't really say it sucks.
I think it is great and many other agree with me. I am sorry it did not agree with your current lifestyle or beliefs.
You tried to come onto my club and try to berate the founder ( myself) into changing it. It did not work, because I let no one member bully me ot my other members.
The members who do join are know what my club is about. It is clearly marked. I am sorry you did not agree with goals and objectives.

I just feel many XJWS get burnt after leaving the Jehovah's Witnesses that the idea of anyone who has a deep faith or what Mike will call "Fundumentalist" are demonized by the XJW culture.
Most who are Born-Again Christian like myself are not mislead, weird people.
It is ok to hold those cvalues which the Bible has dear to us.
It is when a peson oversteps a person boundries with it. I don't shove it down your throat. YOu can go to the club's link, and check it out for yourself.
This is the Internet, if you don't like it don't join. You have a freewill and choice. So does everyone else.
Mike has not given you the whole picture. My club and baord are claerly marked. I created a site for XJWS like myself who hold those values. Those memebers who choose to join know what I and the Founders are all about.
I felt the site was need because it an XJW did express their values and beliefs they were berated for them. Thsi thread and many other confirms the reason why the club was created long ago.
The club is heavly modeated and the members do understand that fact. We have 6 founders and 290 memeber to date. Beside teh singles club, it is #2 on Yahoo club under Jehovah's Witnesses.
I gave you some honest constructive critisim not because I wanted to berate you, but it takes a lot of work to make it succeed. It is takes harder work to keep it there.
I was honest with you abut my intention for your board. I could have slyly and dishonestly have gotton it. I like to acquire it. I have a very horable purpose for the newsboard and have gotten some people who are dedicated to see it work.
I am hoping you personal feeeling won't interfere with you decison though. If you real goal is to help XJWS you might want to hear me out instead of just trying to get XJWS to rally on your side.

Having looked at the thread mike gave a URL for, I've got to say I agree with him in part.
He's looking for someone to run a non-religiously inclined news service for xJW's.
nowaytess offers to take it over and turn it into a religiously inclined news service for xJW's. How do you think he's gonna react? Then she tells him why he's got it all wrong, from a very exclusivistic point of view, contradicting (to some non-Christian's viewpoints) the very tenets of her supposed belief. How do you think he's gonna react? She may have been making fair comment for her, but so was he for him.
She nicely typified many Christian xJW's. We see them here all the time, some have commented on this thread.
They make me itch too, sometimes.
But I know that many xJW Christians are inclusivistic and do not seem to betray their standards, for all the vanity, ignorance and hypocracy others sometimes display (just as we atheists display those qualities at times too).
I see it as there being nice Christians and 'other' Christians. I am as entitled to this opinion as any Christian is entitled to thinking there are nice Atheists and 'other' atheists.
The difference is, some Christians cannot see someone as nice unless they are a Christian, whereas athiests can almost always see someone's religion has precisely NOTHING to do with how nice they are.
Thus, to an atheist, the lack of reasoning (from their viewpoint) displayed by some Christians, is frustrating.
I am sure atheists piss Christians off just as much as atheists piss off Christians. However, atheists are not claiming to lead a life where they will react in an exemplary fashion to being pissed off, thus whenever some Christians get pissed off, they're tripping over their own feet in a very human fashion. Tough titty.
It's all very simple, and we should all just get over it, including me. I'm getting more bored with the differences between us and more concerned about the similarities.

'an honorable purpose' nowaytess?
I take issue with that statement of yours. There is something highly unethical about fundys like you trolling for converts on boards such as these.
People like you take advantage of newly leaving cult members.
You take advantage of their confusion ,vulnerability and shaken worldview before they have time to regain clarity of thought. You offer another salvation sale package to those who may not even have made the journey into real healing, researching the premises they once lived by.
You offer the same old stuff, just different verbiage. And one as rigid and narrow that they came from per your posts,'overstep boundaries',' not agreeing with different beliefs and lifestyles'.
I'm all for moderates in religions, like I said,I find your method of culling the herd quite questionable.TVive Bene

I do have to agree I find people selling their own brand of soap to people who have been drowned in soap-suds is offensive.
Of course, atheists may be subject to the same acusation. But atheists are not selling anything discrete, as in a seperate unified set of concepts. They are not so much selling soap as saying you don;t need soap.
And some Christian's manage to be Christians without seeming to be manipulative sods who don't understand the deep theological quandries of their own faith, let alone the contradictions between any known holy book and science.

Exactly Ab!!
Having once been believers, all we suggest is to take time, think about the soap product first! Do some research, get some scientific foundation, look into the history and context of the times these tenets were produced.
Basically make an informed decision, and not jump the gun and buy the 'new and improved brand of soap called Utopia'.
Actually Im being redundant as thats what you said as well. :> hugs,TVive Bene
