I have alots of firewood at my backyard, the pest control tech tells me that I need to elevate the firewood above the ground to avoid termites. I am trying to think what to do? Do you have any suggestions? Thanks!

    Hi asilentone,

The simplest solution is probably to just place a termite barrier on the ground and stack the wood on it (thick rubber is good).

Then cover it with a plastic tarp. A better solution is a dedicated woodshed or leanto against an existing structure.

Or if it's ironbark, you could just leave it there and take your chances :/

    Asilentone ...

I don't know if anyone has mentioned this but a good way would be to elevate the firewood about the ground to avoid termites.

    Hope this helps.

I throw mothballs into and around my firewood to keep the snakes out.

I don't know if that will help with termites....but I don't see why not.

You could also put the mothballs into a sealed container and punch a lot of holes in the container. I use that method in other places to deter critters.

I think creosote would work well to stop termites. They use it on utility poles in many places and it seems to resist most infestations.

Your woodpile will last for many seasons that way.

Get the Firewood off the grown. Get some Bricks and put your firewood across them. Then put mothballs all around that will keep out some bugs and snakes.

There is a Termite-8, it will kill Termite, be careful use gloves, its strong. I would put it on the firewood by the brick.

Then I would spray Black Flag for bugs, all over the wood.

Then cover with a Plastic Tarp. That should do it, That should keep a lot of bugs and Spiders out. ( Mice, Snakes, Gophers Termites)

You can use Pine-Sol and Bleach and water mix, If you don't want to use Black Flag.

I was going to say Barbie, that I wouldn't want to burn the wood with all that pesticide on it.

Hubby would have just gotten some "Flats"( Don't know the actual name for them) from work and put them on the ground, then stacked the wood on top of it.

By flats I mean those things they stack cinder blocks on or bricks when hauling them. he used to get them free from his work at a concrete company.

    Snoozy..

ps..thanks for the tips about moth balls..I am getting ready to move to a place that has a fireplace..the worst thing that I can think about is wasps coming in..I hate those creepy things ..they should stay outdoors and mind there own business!

You can do away with Termite -8 -----by getting coated Poles or Railroad Ties and put your Firewood on that.

You need to use the mothballs and Pine- Sol Mix with Bleach and water. and cover with Plastic.
