Boy, I go from laughing my ass off on one thread, and then come to this one.
I really feel that people need to be able to make a choice how they want to go. Talking about the ones nearing the end of their natural life here, not the younger ones that need help coping.
Making people comfortable when they are dying is a good thing. Keeping them "artificially" alive, is not so good.
Lay down Watson, just relax. Let me show you this movie of fields of flowers.............................
Comedian Drew Carey used to do a routine about making out a living will, where you stipulate that you do not want to be kept alive if you are in a vegetative state. But then, suppose it happens and you discover that being a vegetable is the most wonderful feeling in the world? How do you communicate that you've changed your mind?
Ok, we need to figure out some kind of signal!!!

I had a feeling that the green beans were trying to tell me something tonight...............
Noooooooooo, green beans are notoriously inaccurate. They have a mind of thier own.
If the patient chooses to refuse treatment after weighing the costs and the benefits, that is acceptable.
If someone else (the government) tells you that you can't get the treatment because they will not benefit from
your life to the extent of the cost, despite that you have decided that the benefits are worth the cost, it is
not acceptable.
You know it's going to be a class thing also, those among the elite who even now more often live to be ninties plus will get first choice while blue collar will be shown the suicide machine at a much earlier age, can you really trust a government run by the elite to dole out healthcare fairly? If they weren't always stealing money out of Social Security and health care for their pet projects I believe the money would be there for any and all who wanted to live longer, on the other hand if you want out that option should be there too, but should not made by Wall Street/Banker shysters who created the crisis in the first place and who now make up Obama's cabinet.
We have a joke here at Misery Manor: Mr Bee has told me from the git-go that I'd better be ready to "pull the plug" when his time comes - meaning, when he can no longer play even nine holes. No argument. And I've said that no matter how futile my life prospects appear, I want heroic and expensive efforts made to keep me alive and consuming applesauce, intravenously or otherwise.
