Thanks Angharad. BTW, I'm also encouraged by the names, handles, aliases, that everyone is using. I got so SICK (even from the beginning) of having to be addressed by JW's as BROTHER Ananas rather than as Rico. Once a cute little kid sed in a WT "review" that he was impressed by how all the men had the same first name: BROTHER. I even tried calling people Brother John, Sister Mary, etc, but most thought I was just weird.

Hi, Rico,
Welcome!
Is "Ananas" pronounced like "bananas"? If so, I think it's a lovely name.
"Yes, we have no Ananas . . . We have no Ananas today . . ."

But we DO have Ananas today, Ginny, and we are so glad! Isn't anana the French word for pineapple, the symbol of hospitality?
Welcome, Rico. We all love it here, and are happy to welcome you among us. I loved the quotation about the assembly hall!
You're right about the avoidance of anything spiritual among JW's. They are much more ritualistic than any Catholic I ever knew. It has been great to look within myself rather than to be so totally directed from without.

Rico I always hated that "brothers" handle too. It just seemed so phoney to me. I mean my "brothers and sisters" never had any problems backbiting each other. Then again maybe it was appropriate?

Hi Rico,
I was in for about 40 years, 10 years or so as PO and just got tired of all the stuff I had to do. I was out about 25 years before I discovered this place and the info I learned here gave me peace from the JWs BS. There are a mixture of characters here that entertain and inform you, and some who piss you off at times, but I like them all. I'm addicted to this forum and feel like I'm part of a group of friends who would support me if I really needed their help. Enjoy the ride.

yeah i agree 'the assembly hall' has gone into my document of quotes ...
howdy rico - everything you are saying is hitting nails for the rest of us - association in the kh is no association at all - you walk away from 100 people having spent two hours with them and you feel completely alone ...
not here - these people are insanely normal - they all understand the unique thought gymnastics we go through - and they are happy to share their own independant thinking with you - makes you feel like a human again, an individual who is worthy of consideration ...
welcome - i guess you're now one of us !

Rico...ahahah!! I LOVE your quote! I will be stealing that soon and saying to my JWs family...they have a sense of humor, I think even my mom will laugh at that!
I am glad you are getting comfortable here. The important thing is to get some live person offline fellowship as well, though. This is a great springboard, but don't let it be your only nonwitness haven.

Damn, I thought this was going to be about the Lord of the Rings

ANANAS is pronounced "ah nah NAHSS." It's a South American word that means "Pineapple" in GuaranĂ. Interesting that ANANAS is also the word they use for "Pineapple" in modern Israeli Hebrew. Guess none ever grew there.
A warm hello to Mum, LB, Undecided, alliwannadoislive, Eyebrow, and Naeblis. Naeblis, I guess I was spending too much time on stuff like How Many Elders can Dance on the Pinkynail of a Circuit Overseer to even read The Lord of the Rings. Maybe now is a good time. Thanks. Rico.
