JWs aren't all the newsworthy except for the occasional story to surface about parents refusing a blood transfusion for a minor child.
Sure, we've been affected by it all, but we're a very, very small minority in the grand scheme of things. There's no real viewer ratings gain by talking about a minor, insignificant religion or their disgruntled ex-members. After all Oprah and her competitors are after viewer ratings.
Another consideration is that when JWs are showcased on TV, such as the NBC Dateline story on the child abuse scandal, all it does is heighten the JW persecution complex. They've been told the world will hate them and to them these expose stories are the proof.
In today's modern world of instant communication and knowledge, the best thing is to make sure that information damning to the religion and organization is readily available on the Internet. Anyone curious, or thinking about getting involved, can see the research and scandals. In the end, if someone wants to still get involved with them, then that's their choice.
