    That's a great plan.

Personally, I don't care if they call it a same-sex union, marriage, or whatever. As long as everyone's rights are respected.

It is a myth that evolution has anything to do with "Survival of the Fittest".

I am not talking about biological evolution, but cultural evolution.

Well...alright. But you be careful young man! Keep a civil tongue in your head! We don't want any hate speech here! We love everybody.

Some marriage patterns are more universal than others because they are more "fit". More successful.

Can you explain this? Not being difficult, just curious what you are saying.

BTS, my own experience wasn't good, but not nearly as bad as so many other people I've known. It would make more sense to me if marriage was a time limited contract that would expire and be subject to re-negotiation. People change over the years, and sometimes lives take different directions, as do individual priorities. The whole concept of "til death do us part" doesn't appear to be supported by the statistics, and can foster unrealistic expectations in people. If people really love each other and want to stay together, a vow before a higher authority like "God" or "the State" shouldn't be necessary. It's almost as if they need the threat of a higher authority hanging over them to keep the union intact.

I understand you point of view Finally-Free. My thinking is that marriage and families only work where there is sacrifice and commitment. The current egotistical bent of our culture would tend to undermine any relationship that requires a great deal if this. Marriage is more than the result of an emotion, it is also a partnership. Love is not so much a feeling, as an action.

Marriage serves a cultural purpose. It exists to help us carry on. It is the base for rearing young. That is one reason why it exists. It has been the nucleus of the family and child-rearing since as far back as we can reckon. A culture (or a species) that does not do a good job of rearing it's young will not last and be overtaken by those that do.

Considering I am about to marry for the second time, and there will be NO offspring, I have to disagree with you. Mutual respect and a best friend who is also the object of your sexual desire is a good basis. Someone to stand next to you as you walk through this world. IMHO that's what it's all about.

Well, that is a big part of a good relationship. But you must realize that you are speaking like a wealthy heir to several very successful generations. It was not always so easy as now.

Of course it wasn't always like that. Women have been possessions, in some places still are.
