Another way the WT can mainstream: DF'ing time limits

It has been mentioned a lot here lately that the WT needs to either mainstream or become more cultish. If they decide to mainstream, here's another way to do it without pissing off the old timers too much. It would also make a lot of people within the borg very, very happy. It would cause quite a loosening of the grip of WT power, though. It is similar to their going from "no blood" to "blood fractions are a conscience matter".

Here it is: Wrongdoers still get DF'd. But the maximum period of time this can last is six months. So there's still a punishment, but it doesn't mean families are broken up forever.

Another baby step for the WT towards normalcy.

    I agree, Outlaw.

If you're really bad, you can go to the meetings for YEARS before they'll do anything for you. It makes the old bastards feel really powerful. They need that.

Now go sit in the sin bin you bad old df'd walking corpses! Do it or you'll never talk to your families again.

When I brought up this issue during the bible study this week, I was told that things have changed and that the society doesn't just forget about those df'd ones any longer. (in response to my criticism of lack of compassion and concern). I was told that the elders make it a point of going to meet with the df'd one to make sure they are doing well.

I knew she was talking about the once a year visit that's supposed to be made - trying to make it sound like the society is mainstreaming and not following the same strigent rules. sammieswife.

That is BS my hubby has been df'd for 14 years and not one visit, and They damn well know where we live.

In my personal experience, disfellowshipping is simply a book printing business firing personnel. They don't WANT those fired back.

Exactly. She was forced to say that to me because there was no other way for her to cop out of a direct honest answer when I asked her if she herself, ever approached a df'd person on her own out of a sense of compassion. What could she say? She knows she doesn't and didn't want to admit it.

What would that do for those of us without family? A time limit would send Brother Hounder around after it expires, so those with expiring disfellowshippings can start getting dragged back to the Kingdumb Hell and out in field circus once again.

They can, and should, put strict time limits for those who are trying to return. If they are going to go by the Bible, the prodigal son is the example they should be trying to imitate--leaving him alone until he chooses to return, and then welcoming him back as soon as he comes back to his senses.
