Yeah, I think we might not even realize how guilt plays a part in our being who we are because we were Witnesses.

not so much guilt but regret....

    i have so many regrets
    where my kids are concerned....

no guilt because i was not
acting in conflict with my conscience,
but regrets for having been so duped

I don't. Just because something was wrong under their paradigm doesn't mean it is absolutely wrong. I do things just to slap them in the face--in fact, I would actually feel more regret if I were to go back out in field circus. Plus, I would have more to feel guilty about by going out, ruining children's lives and wasting everyone's time.

Since leaving the org I've done a ton of reading, a ton of letting go. A great book that really opened my eyes to the whole guilt trap is called "freedom in an unfree world" - wow - I don't get guilted into anything now.

I think most JWs who were formerly Catholics are loaded with guilt. They were programmed by the Church so they were predisposed to be very guilty as JWs.

I was never a Catholic but knew plenty that had became dubs. No one has guilt down as well as them. I don't have guilt about the things I do now that would be considered as sinful when a witless. Like I have said before I try to not hurt anyone with words or emotions and want them to respect me like that. If someone is guilty over something they need to get over it! Don't try to push it off on me.

Not for me. I acted out as a JW because of guilt.

Today I don't act out of guilt because I'm no longer a JW.
