I remember back when the convention used to be four days, and there was no afternoon session on Friday(or was it Thursday?). Instead we were supposed to go out in field service in the afternoon. They did this up until about the early to mid-80's. I can remember at least two instances when I had to go out with my parents. It was positively dreadful, even worse than normal. Did anyone else ever partake of this stupidity wonderful provision from Jehovah?

I did.
I enjoyed it quite a bit since it was a time to meet other kids.
Mostly we just passed out DC invites and mags..... kids got to do the very short presentations.
The adults all heaped on praises
Then there was a big supper with new and not often seen 'friends' and a trip to baskin robbins..... it also earned rights to enjoy the hotel pool and Saturday evening pizza party!
The DCs were our only family vacation and it was only then that mom's ex was pleasant.

Our worst assemblies were eight days. My parents suited my brother and I up in body size cardboard placards, advertising the Watch Tower Publishing Corporation, string tied front and back together. We walked dirty city street corners tied in these signs, handing out handbills advertising the Watch Tower Publishing Corporation. -

The last three 4-day Grand Boasting Sessions I remember (1988, 1990, and 1993), they had a session on Thursday afternoon--it was Thursday morning that they would not have a session. Of course, they hoped that people would do street work that morning, but I was never part of that.
The best ones are the zero day a$$emblies, where you donate zero dollars to the Worldwide Pedophile Defense Fund, and do zero field circus. And, if you want the littera-trash, it is posted somewhere online for free (and zero donations).

I remember too. '58 - 8 days (almost 12 yrs old then). Traveled by car from California to NY. No air-conditioning. The Society leased an old ship (believe me not a cruise ship) for those 8 days that had brought over JWs from Europe and utilized it for JWs to 'rent',,bunk beds & shared bathrooms. Don't know how Mom did it with 4 children. We usually went in service at district assemblies but I don't remember going in service there. My 'cheer-leader' JW Mom was understandably very drained I do recall. We did get to go up the Empire State building as was very important to me then but that was about the only sightseeing time that we had. I had so wanted to go to the Statue of Liberty but didn't get to go. Went back to NY in '69 for Bethel.

I remember those conventions as a kid...4 friggin' long days. The best parts were that I got new dresses for each day, the cheese danishes and the hoagies with that strange italian dressing that cost 12 tickets. Remember the food tickets?
We only did field service after the convention once. We meet with the congo after our cleaning assignment, then he told everyone to just visit their return visits and invite them to the Sunday session. We got in the car with our mom and did one rv and went home. Not many folks participated in that field service arrangement.
