As a matter of interest, Professor E. Martin offered some convincing evidence that Christ died (which is what it actually says in the scriptures) on a tree. He carried the cross-beam, which was nailed to the tree, a very practical and simple process for the Romans to implement. Think about how much more sense it all makes if Jesus died on tree (tree of life, "if they do this while the tree is green...", "anyone hung on a tree is cursed...").
There is no evidence that Jesus died on an upright stake, since the word stauros can be interpreted in different ways.
Scholar is the embodiment of the one who will not see.
"Absolutely, the Society is not ambivalent on this matter as the evidenc eboth secular and biblical proves that Jesus died on a stake rather than a pagan cross. Again your focus is wrong for the statement of 'anatomic absolutes' refers to the body of Christ and not the instrument of his death."
Actually there is NO evidence for him dying on a tree. And much FOR him dying on a cross. Is there a small chance he died on a tree? Maybe. Did the historical Jesus suffer a sacrificial death at all? Very little outside the bible says so.
Really who cares anyway. For Scholar, 607 and the cross and (add your own laughable position/doctrine/belief here) are position markers, things that enforce their brand to the rank and file; they can't give them up.
Their very own dime store oracle Freddy Franz figured he knew greek, since he did take one class you know, and made the typical rookie mistake of taking the word at it's face value, ignoring historical usage and text analysis.
Really, it gets funnier all the time.
God, good to see Scholar back. Where is AlanF??
Scholar,
I just got a text message from Michelangelo. He's asking to be deleted from your list as a "celebrated JW scholar". He didn't think it was a compliment and all the other artists up in heaven have been teasing him unmercifully, calling him things like "stake-man" and "pole-hugger".
He also mentioned that heaven really is full of ignudi.

Sad...
At best, it can only be a theory in the traditions of Christianity that Jesus was executed on the single stake.
At issue is the source material that the GB uses, dishonestly and disingenuously. If they offered it as a possibility, the WT never said what Michaelangelo or Lipsius really believed, and that is all that matters.
The WT could simply say that these guys belived that Jesus died on the traditional two beam cross. (which the more I examine, the more I believe this would have been the case)
The whole point is that the WT cherry picked a theory, made it seem like a fact, never informing their followers of this, and then continue to sell Jesus having died on a single stake as if they had a Polaroid of it. Thats the issue.
Not only is the WT wrong, they lied.
The deception is in not acknowledging that he might even possibly have died on a cross. The dubs are taught that it is fact that he died on one upright pole.
In fact the evidence favours a cross IMHO but your average Joe the Publisher is never given the chance to hear that ..BTW Why do they talk about a tree "He died upon a tree, to set all mankind free" Kingdom song..when the scriptures clearly show that he carried it to the place Golgotha???
These Watchtower-type statements are always interesting...
"Jesus died on a stake rather than a pagan cross"
So, does that mean that Jesus died on some kind of a Christian stake? Because the Bible does make reference to timbers that are stood straight up from the ground without a crossbeam. For centuries, such poles and pillars were already idolatrous objects in Israel. The "Bible encyclopedia" Insight on the Scriptures states regarding sacred poles and pillars, "These appendages of idolatry, likely phallic symbols, were associated with grossly immoral sex orgies". The Bible makes no mention of any pagan cross. So, it would be reasonable to conclude that if Jesus had been impaled on a stake, it would have resembled the phallic idols that were erected on high hills... sounds pagan to me.

As I mentioned earlier, Jesus carried the cross-piece. Then, the cross-piece is nailed to a tree. So Jesus died in a cross-like position upon a tree, and this makes a lot of sense when you consider all the scriptural references.
Just thought I'd bump this baby back up... in memory of Michelangelo, the "celebrated JW scholar" who died too soon.
In the immortal works of scholar (post 1613): "The sculpture of Christ alone shows..."
Indeed, it shows us who is grasping at any floating timber as the TitaniTower takes on more water through the gash ripped in her hull by the iceberg of truth.
I forgot about this monumental piece of "sh*t" logic, an attempt to muddy the waters.
Sadly, since Rutherford, JW's have been all about squating on the intellectual spiritual territory that traditional churches don't inhabit. That is to say, "....if the big religions don't believe it, we (JW's) will consider it.
