It helps to go back and see the history and what America was going through at the time. WW1 and WW2 both were scary times, when people are scared they latch onto anything.......Of course none of them fought the wars.....it's easier to sit back and cast blame. But America pulled through, because she's strong like that.
Rutherford's distrust of government was radical. We should prolly be glad the JW's weren't allowed to vote. Neo-cons from hell, I say.

I hate Knorr because he was the one that was President when my parents became JWs and I think he was president the whole time I was being raised as a JW. Everyone acted like he was some sort of God. SHEESH!

Knorr still runs the place. At the Annual Meeting in 05, I commented to myself that the ghost of Knorr was still in the air. Anthony Morris even referred to Knorr and Franz in his concluding prayer! (still makes me shake my head....)
But the current JW neurosis come from Rutherford. The attitude, the belligerence, the drunkeness, and they hypocrisy originate with Rutheford.
If you must blame Knorr, blame him for "organizing" the preaching work so well, it choked any humanity it might have had, while improving efficiency exponentially. Blame him for the JW habit of judging people and their spirituality through numbers and hours preached alone.
Blame Freddie Franz for those absolute batshit doctrines, with their types and anti-types. It must piss of the current Governing Body 2.0 that they still have to deal with what he wrote all those years ago....
