I did a scan and found compatible memory for my model.
I did the scan on two different sites, then bot the RAM based on the scan. All the scan results matched my exact computer hardware for a Compaq SR1403WM.

Here's an example of what you can buy today and still be ready for the future.
I may reformat if this doesn't do it.
I likely am taxing the RAM according to what many are saying here. So, we'll see how that works first. I installed memory once on another computer, but never on this one [though I have replaced major components like CDRW on this one].

There is likely a new computer in my future not far down the road Homerovah. My grandkids live with us and are using my computer more and more. Still, I want to get this one up to best possible speed before I hand it over to them.

Here is a step by step procedure for checking what kind of RAM that you have and where if possible you can place
something bigger, as I said previously you have to use the exact type of RAM not size necessarily.
Step 2: Verify how much memory can be added Use the following steps to find the exact memory configuration and how much memory should be purchased and installed:
1Gb of memory should make a big difference Jeff. It's a cheap way to go. I hate to toss an older machine when a cheap upgrade will do.

I'm guessing that there are at least 2 RAM slots on your mother board, it might be possible then to take out the RAM that you have
and replace them with 2 sticks of 250 mg. , giving you a total of 500 mg. which would help you out greatly,
but thats if you can find the exact type of RAM that you have RDRAM, DDRRAM etc. and this is very important
or the RAM will simply not work and your money and effort will be futile.
BTS read my posts, of course a system with more RAM would be better but there are compatibility issues.
I have 2GB of maximum memory capacity on this computer, already determined that. I have two slots, one empty, already determined that. The installed memory is 256MB. So with the GB added I will have 1.256GB, still under that max allowed or functional on this machine.
I have determined that the memory I am buying is compatible for this machine.

Just curious Jeff what type of Ram is it ?
