If I saw a starving child, I would find out the child's circumstances and make sure the child is placed with someone who cares.

Exactly. And starving of a child does equate to slavery in that both are great injustices that we can either condone or work to rectify. By making sure the child was placed somewhere you would be taking an affirmative act that would not be indicative of tacit approval.

Slavery and starvation continue to this very day, even in our so-called enlightened times.

    Wonder why?

To the contrary, by giving instructions as to the humane treatment of slaves, God tacitly acknowledges that, were humans fully in tune with Him, things would be quite different.

I sooo hate to come down on Doe's side here Sylvia, you know that. But if God was giving out instructions on how to treat the slaves, why wasn't the first instruction "Let them go"?

We're straying pretty far off topic here. I sense that I'm not going to change your mind, and I will respect your right to believe what you believe. That doesn't change the fact that I have a clear impression that you are molding the world to fit what you believe. But then again, that's just my opinion.

Bek!!! I was wondering where you were.

Ummm ... maybe economics had something to do with it, and in that sense, aren't we all slaves?

Yes, Doe Boy, as I respect your beliefs.

You know, out of sheer curiosity, I just googled "does the bible condone slavery," and you wouldn't believe the replies!

    Or, maybe you would.

nope the bible doesn't condone the sort of slavery practiced in the North Atlantic. That one isn't going to wash.

Anyway the reason I came on here was to congratulate you guys on having such a an amazing first lady. Have you guys seen any clips from her visit and speech at a school in London today?
