I don't personally know of anyone who got reinstated just to regain family relationships, but I'm sure it happens.
My sister did. Then she faded and was able to retain family association for the most part since she was never re-DF'd or DA'd.

Some of the saddest human beings in the world are those who do not "walk the walk" but who still believe it is the "(T)ruth". Not everyone who left sees it for what it really is... they just think they are going to be destroyed at Armegeddon.
Horrible way to live one's life. I really hate to say this, but... if they are not going to wake up and use their own minds, they are probably better off inside. I really can't believe I just said that.
DrWtsn said: IMO if someone goes back, they never truly broke away (mentally) in the first place.
Exactly.
I second what Flipper had to say:
"The only way anybody could " actually believe it again " after having it proved to be a sham - they would have to be insane. "
Its SO true!! I read Blondie's WT study from this past Sunday and I was so disgusted .......... there is NO way I could never go back!!!
They go back because they were kicked out and they want to get back in.
If somebody says you cant have something or do something, many people become
defiant and want the forbiden item or behavior more.
Some of us here quit because we saw the tower was full of shxt.
Theres two different thought processes.
Getting kicked out and quitting.
Most people walk around in a trance and think as little as possible.
And then half of those that think.
Are thinking about what they want and how to get it.
So going to meetings for some is a way or illusion, a behavior to get what they want.
What they want has various faces,
Friendship, belonging, safety, security, jobs, money, prestige, meaning to life, etc.

That was what happened to me.
The only part that I disagree with is this: "....they are probably better off inside."
As deranged as I was, I still believe of was better off out. Not having been baptised was a big help. That was a luxury many don't have and I am grateful for that.
Cheers
Chris
I do not think those who get reinstated actually do so after realising they have made a mistake, they do it for family....
there's also a huge number of those who never get DF'd, not because they live according to JW standards, but because they are smart enough to avoid getting DF.....they remain IN but actually they are OUT.

I think my sister-in-law will go back because she never learned the "real truth." She's been DF'ed for about 14 years.
The WTS implants fears in people about the end and everlasting cutting off. You really have to learn that it ain't da troof.

I can appreciate that, Black Sheep, and I am glad you are here now. I have to agree. It is still a bit of a struggle within my own mind if some folks truly are better off inside the grip of the Watchtower clutches... but it is difficult to imagine.
The only ones I know to ever return are those who sin in a moment of weakness, or that have family members in (hence, they are hounding people to witless to their relatives so they will all have family in). Those who sin in weakness often still believe it, but cannot live up to the standard. Those who learn the real truth about the witlesses almost never go back to believing any of the lies.

do you think tom hanks in castaway, after talking to a volly ball for so long, investing all his time and emotions into it, and it talking back to him... do you think that later, when he was introduced back into civilisation, that he would miss the company of the volly ball? Would he feel as though a part of him was missing? Do you think he would secretly like to catch up and share his new life changes with it?
I think the answer is yes. You cant just erase such a big part of your life.
