Recognising and coming to terms with the fact that something you thought was of global importance and vital to your future survival and that others is in fact baloney is extremely difficult to process in my experience. This is especially true if a person is truly committed to it and is particularly sensitive. I suspect Brian is suffering a great deal as his model of the world and his social connections lie in ruins. On the positive side, with the right support green shoots appear very quickly and he is unlikely to remain confused and conflicted for ever. If its true the truth sets you free, then perhaps lies enslave - escaping from the lies of the WTS will take some time to get over.
Finding the truth is a different matter. If there is such a thing. (Please don't quote the Bible back at me if anyone has a mind to as I don't accept it as an authority).
