    Hi Everyone,

Your opinion please. A recent AWAKE article seems to okay cremation and I thought at one time the Watchtower was against it.

Do you have any thoughts one way or the other on the subject?

Cremation leaves more money from the estate for the WTS or in my case more for my sweety.

Cremation is cheaper. Here in Ohio, if you're buried in a traditional casket, you can only put one body per graveplot. If you're cremated, you can put two bodies per graveplot. So hubby and I can be close forever! We have two handicapped children and have to provide for their burial, so with cremation we can buy two graveplots that will accomodate all four of us. That makes the headstone cheaper also.

The history of the cremation ban goes like this:

The Catholic Church teaches that there will be a resurrection of the body. During the French Revolution, some people started burning dead bodies as a way to make a statement to the Church that they didn't believe in the Church and specifically in the resurrection of the body. As this practice was a protest against the Church, the Church at that time placed a ban on cremation. That ban stayed in place for quite some time.

Today, people usually pursue cremation because it's less expensive, not as a way to protest the Church's beliefs. And the Church teaches that, if God can resurrect a body from a pile of bones, He can do it from a pile of ashes. So the Church has lifted the ban on cremation.

I don't remember the WTS. stating they were against cremation,

Lucky for the GB members cause they know beforehand that the WTS. will bury them in one of their cemetery plots for free.

This situation doesn't even concern them.
