Let me add my thanks to you for sharing. Stories like this will help others who are doubting, but questioning their doubts.

Fantastic story, AAG--you're a talented writer.
Your account of the assembly part about the "life saving preaching work" resonates with me. I never could reconcile these two teachings: (1) the preaching work is life-saving; and (2) the end is right around the corner. When you put these two teachings together, it looks like the 2-billion-plus Arabs and Chinese are just ____ out of luck!

Wow, that really was an outstanding story. It is a fantastic deconstruct of Watchtower doctrine, but I think that by being padded in an autobiography it could be palatable to many active JWs.
It lines up very much with my life and thinking and age of finally breaking free. I never really wanted to be a JW and from a young age kept thinking "what if it isn't the truth". I feared getting to 70 and looking back over my life thinking that I had lived a life that I never wanted to, and it wasn't even based on truth. It is sad that it takes decades of living with these thoughts to finally make sense of it and move on.

Thanks for your story.
I wonder how manyothers just sit there at the meetings, pushing doubts into the far recesses of their minds? I know I did, and felt guilty, thinking that I "lacked spiritual understanding," was "like a wave of the sea" as I was doubting.
I always wondered also, if there were annointed on earth at all times since Jesus, why Russell didn't go looking for them and attach himself to them! Why was he the beginning of the modern-day organization?

Thanks for the story. I can relate to going back to school and that really getting the wheels turning. Then coming to point where I could not possibly attend one more meeting.
