Oompa, probably close to it. I can't stand meat. It makes me sick. I cook alot of greek and Italian food that contain pasta, veggies, cheese, and herbs.

In the long run, I am more concerned about abused, tested, and abandoned animals, just like abused and abandoned children....niether have a voice.

We have a responsibility in both areas to protect those who cannot speak for or protect themselves against the abuses of society.

Would you slaughter a cat or a dog that was starving?

A cat or a dog is a lot easier to care for than a horse. Have you actually encountered an animal that was starving to death? Is allowing them to suffer in such a way more compassionate than putting them down? Perhaps it is you who needs to re-evaluate your humanity.

Let me say this...I think there is a place for all of God's creation.....

....and usually that place is on my dinner table. Wild Turkey here, chicken over there, shrimp, crab and lobsters

on the far corner. Beef in the center. Pork to the far left. MMMMM

And now with all this talk about horse meat I've got something else to go with the deer.

    Now its time for prayer..

    God is great,

    God is good

let me thank him for this food

and for all those critters that was running around before I got to them. Amen

Well of course the animals shouldn't be made to suffer, and if it can be proven that the owners were negligent then they should be punished. I don't think anyone here is in support of animal cruelity. I'm saying that different cultures assign different values to different animals. In most of the Western world cows = food, in India cows = sacred. If someone somewhere is raising horses for food who am I to judge? They might find raising pigs for food obscene.

Over hunting wild animals is another problem altogether.

beksbks I'm glad to hear we are in agreement on some of our culinary delicacies.

If you're ever over on the east coast look me up and we can go frog-giggin or just go in the woods and

look for anything that tries to run.

I've yet to find a creature or critter that didn't taste good in some butter or some type of sauce.

    I belong to P E T A, People Eating Tasty Animals.

I've had horse , it's very good. I used to live out west and knew folks who would have gladly taken a horse home to butcher, had it been aloud. There was also food banks willing to take horses and pay for them to be humanely slaughtered.

    Bubblie writes:

“Most of these horses are just being killed for the meat to sell it to countries that eat it. That seems very wrong to me.”

This entry quotes Bubblie but intends no disrespect. The quotation just happens to express a sentiment repeated by upright walking carnivores of the human variety that makes no sense to me.

What about chickens? What about cattle? What about sheep? What about fish?

Folks, humans are carnivores. We eat meat. That is the way it is. Get over it.

Horses have no more or less sense of fear and pain than other animals. They understand food. They understand fear. Horses are prey animals. Humans are predators. Guess what? That’s the way it is.

So long as an animal (horses included!) is slaughtered without needless infliction of pain and duress then it is fine, plus is makes the meat taste better because there is less edema resulting from stress induced hypertension. The less blood remaining in tissue the less tangy iron taste it has.
