My First Passover

I am now a born again Christian with a wife who is too sick to be an active JW but who is insisting on going to the memorial. I know I am not under any obligation to celebrate the Passover but I found out a few months ago that I am part Jewish. For some reason my folks never told me about it and I had to hear it from my cousin who told me that besides being part Jewish, my maternal great grandfather was also part Irish. I asked my mom if it was true and she said it is. I asked her why she never told me in 46 years. She said it was never really an issue...I always wanted to celebrate the Jewish holidays and now I know why! LOL

So, I have been looking into celebrating my first Passover and I am overwhelmed with the rules for the house and the table. I have already gotten rid of all the leavening from the house and most of the other stuff including making my home Kosher for the week. I am not sure I can make the Matzo in the time prescribed and wonder if anyone here knows if serving store bought spelt matzos is ok or not. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Store bought Matzo is okay for passover if it is labeled as such. Usually there will be a P for passover on the package. The same goes for milk, icecream, etc. Look for the P.

This will be my first passover also. Boy, are the rules complicated.

Aren't you just trading one superstition for another?

"Aren't you just trading one superstition for another?"

Not really, I am just looking at the different facets of my bloodline.

You know it's funny you should say Adventism. I just this morning checked the mail and the sda church a few miles down the road in Orosi, CA sent me an invite. They supposedly have answers to every family's questions.

But you are also American Indian.

    How do they observe Easter/Passover/Memorial?

Larry, perhaps you could come up with something really original by incorporating facets of all your ancestry.

I think you like holidays and you enjoy making festive. I think that's really what it is...you are a social creature and holidays are an excuse for a nice social event to share with friends and family. Specials foods, special games and rituals...etc, etc.

I think you would be a fantastic party planner!

If you were in charge of the New System calendar....what new holidays would you make up? What would you really like to celebrate?

Hopefully something more cheerful than representations of killing things and making blood sacrifices, and slinging blood on your door post.

    TOTHypocrisy,

Many synagogues are offering Seder suppers on the 9th. You may want to call around and see if there are any openings left. Usually the deadline to register is at the end of March but they do receive cancellations and are looking to fill the empty seats.
