here's a link to Canadian Assembly hall's tax returns, compare some to each other. I know Norval, Ontario( 90% sure :) ) and Onoway, Alberta ( 100% sure ) don't have any kingdom halls in them and are strictly used for assemblies. I don't know why more didn't appear as I know there is one in Calgary that has 5 kingdom halls in it which is also used as an assembly hall.

I believe the Branch manual contains written instructions regarding how that works.

Elsewhere, that is an excellent scan!! Did you have that manual professionally scanned? Just curious.

I tried it twice. The link didn't work. Is there another way you can show the content? I'm curious.

You know, this really makes me angry when I think of all the weekends we spent up in London, Ohio, as volunteers, building our assembly hall. And all the contributions we made for the materials.

Just like it always frosted me that the Society would "lend" the congs. money at only 6% interest, which was less than the banks at that time. I thought, but the money they have was DONATED to them. Why should they charge any interest at all?

    Crooks.

    Roddy:

sometimes it works for me and sometimes it doesn't.

main link to charitible tax returns is:

    http://www.cra-arc.gc.ca/ebci/haip/srch/sec/SrchLogin-e?login=true&searchType=Registered

that should work, under charity name just type in "jehovah assembly" and it should list assembly halls in Canada but not all and I don't know why. But I tried it just now and it says "We apologize, but this link is currently unavailable." so I don't know what's up with the government server. keep trying and just follower the directions when you get it. It's all there you can search watch tower or jehovah which should give returns for Canadian bethal and Canadian KHs returns and all that. Sorry I couldn't be of more help but have no control over the government site :)

"My old man was the Presiding Overseer for years. I know that hel told me several times that when the elders meeting is called and the chair says that we will donate $5,000 (example) to the worldwide work or to the WTS that someone had to second it. If you raised your hand and seconded the motion and a lack of sufficient funds were taken in during the assembly time to meet the obligation, whoever seconded it was responsible for the difference. He commented that he mistakenly seconded a resolution once, only to be told this my the more wealthy elders who historically were the only ones who seconded transactions involving money donations, etc."

Most stupid nonsense I ever read!

Was it you or your old man on the turps?

    Seconding "oldhippie." This is b.s.

The rest of the experiences related on this thread are essentially correct. The accounts report is given to the elders at their business meeting mid-way through the assembly, a donation to the WTS is agreed upon which creates a "deficit" that is viewed as temporary until the donations come in. Elders know that when a "deficit" is announced, it serves as a reminder to the publishers that it is time to put some money in the box. And they do. From past experience, the elders already know how much to expect at a given assembly site.

    This is how it works.

Assembly hall comittee prepares a yearly budget. Then divide the total amount by the sum of all publishers assigned to use such hall. This gives them a per-publisher-rate. When a Circuit comes to have an assembly, they have to pay their quota. It's like a pro-rated rent.

Now, the circuit make al ist of aaaaaaaall expenses: Hall quota, CO Expenses, DO expenses, Guest speaker's expenses (air fare, etc.), office supplies, etc. BEAR IN MIND that all these are ESTIMATES, as this is before the assembly even starts. As you would expect they INFLATE those estimates. So the assembly begins with a HUGE amount for estimated EXPENSES, and of course no contributions (The assembly has not even started!).

A well known fact is that attendants tend to give their contributions at THE END of the Assembly; but the FINANCIAL REPORT is prepared and read from the stage SUNDAY MORNING, with Saturday afternoon data. So what you get here is HUGE EXPENSES v. almost no contributions. Not surprisingly, THERE IS ALWAYS A DEFICIT.

But come Sunday afternoon, Contributions POUR IN, expenses get adjusted to realistic levels, and you have a HUGE SURPLUS that BROTHERS AND SISTERS NEVER GET TO KNOW. Since WTBS encourages them to do so, the elders resolve to send aaaaaall that money as a contribution to the 'worldwide work' a.k.a. 'The Society'. The funds are virtually depeleted so we start next assembly -again- with a deficit.

I am en alder, and was a CO for many years. I can witness that this is done on purpose. I have even witnessed how Assembly overseers intentionally left out contribution information to accomodate a higher deficit.

i once witnessed and signed the donation slip for a $13,000.00 cheque donated to our local KH by a deceased sister. This dollar figure was never-ever read at an accounts report. Never.
