Wow Gary! Jim's quote was hard. Not saying it isn't true - just hard!
Are there things they DON'T tell you until AFTER you're baptized?

They sell the DFing policy as a loving arrangement, they don't get into the details. They don't tell you that they tear families apart. They have quite an extensive misinformation campaign regarding the medical use of blood.

It's not only about what you are not told; it's mainly about you being able to see the implications. When you get batpized at 12, or 16, you are not able to see the implications of what you're doing, the comitment you are making.
And, YES, there are a lot of thing you are not told, as some of you have listed here.
But WORSE is the fact that even if they did tell you all (which they don't) they RESERVE THE RIGHT to CHANGE IT AT ANY TIME and you have to take it or face consequences.
That is ABSURD by any measure. That's signing a contract in whichthe other party says, I can chenge the terms at any time and you don't have a say, and can't walk out of the deal.
So maybe you were baptized knowing that such and such was true, and you believed it, and one day out of the blue THEY CHANGE it, and you cannot say a word. You have to swallow it or be DF'd.

"They don't tell you getting baptized is the equivalent of selling your soul life to the WTS."
I think I would rather sell my soul to the Devil. At least that way I would have the hope of getting something I could actually use, rather than a misery that I am supposed to complete that has no other purpose than to get everyone in the world into itself.

I came in in 1984. I studied with a JW using the Live Forever book and THEIR bible which as we all know, is as far from being a neutral view of the religion as one can get. There was no study of the history, origin, founder, dogma...just the fluffy stuff about paradise, and living forever, and being ressurected and blah blah blah. The fairy tale. And at the END of that book, several chapters and warm fuzzies and love bombings later...is the information about oh by the way, you have to give up all holidays and worldly associates and go door to door now.
I was told too, after a year of being around the JW "friends" that if I DIDNT now get baptized, that they couldnt be around me any more because I was bad association as long as I was NOT a JW.
No pressure here.

That only jws won't be destroyed at Armageddon.
The details of the policy on blood transfusion are not clear.
The true situation of pedophiles in the WTS.

I think one important thing they don't tell you is that as soon as you are baptized you can't ask questions any more. Your inquiring mind must shut down. You have to accept without question anything they teach including all the changes and switching back and forth.
You aren't told that questioning can lead to discipline.
So in one moment your mind must clamp shut forever.

Wow! So.....if/when my family member gets baptized, and I happen to have a "thought provoking" question re the WTS for him.....he can't run to his guru for the answer?

Hell, they're are tons of things that don't tell you even after you are baptized.
How many of us learned more about the JWs/WTS history and teachings on our own or after leaving? That tells you that they don't want you to know too much before or after baptism.
