Did you look at their picture slide show?
They looked so nice and normal:
There was what LOOKED like a sister standing up giving a sermon, they were all fashionably dressed, there were no crazy whackos, there was a nice interracial couple holding hands...
etc etc- hey, they look so good, why not go join up!

The dubbies commenting below the article are getting raked over the coals.
Funny random quotes:
''A lot of people think we don't believe in Jesus or that we are some sort of cult, but we do.
Took the trouble to refute the Jesus thing but not the cult thing. LOL
Alvarez, who owns a janitorial company, spent 50 hours in March going door-to-door sharing her faith and inviting strangers to join the Memorial ceremony.
....and felt the need to brag about it to the local newspaper. I'll bet you the same people would be up in arms if the newspaper printed a quote from a priest saying how many hours he spent collecting food for the poor or counseling the sick.
There are more than 100 Witness congregations in South Florida with a few dozen members each. Services are held twice a week, and resemble a college class more than a typical church service.
Awake! University is still alive and well I see.
Song and prayer are minimal.
Spoken like a real investigative journalist who never actually attended the Memorial prayfest and just took a zombie's word for it. How many prayers are there at the Memorial? And how many are there during college classes?

Rebel8, I thought the "song and prayer are minimal" comment was in reference to the general weekly meetings. And in that case, song and prayer are minimal.
I snickered at the "college class" comment. What college would accept most of these people? Not one that's accredited.
I did notice that they said that after this happy, happy celebration, many people would be going home to have a wonderful dinner. I don't remember EVER having dinner after the Memorial. It was always too late at night for that. And we certainly didn't invite other people over to share a Memorial dinner with us. I think they're trying to make it sound like Easter, with a happy church service and then a big old ham or leg of lamb for dinner.
Posers.
The "reporter" must either be a Dub or be related to a Dub to have written this.

whereami asked: Isn't there better things to report on?
Billy answers: Why, yes!!! Check this out from yestersday's Miami Herald... http://www.miamiherald.com/news/miami_dade/beaches/story/998445.html
Hmmm, I don't think the Miami Herald was impressed enough with the Memorial to convert en masse and donate their presses to Watchtower Corp. I suppose JAWEED KALEEM didn't change his name to Fred Franz, either.

No leg of lamb for us either.
We always had a hurried dinner, usually Kraft Macaroni and Cheese, so we could all braid our hair and iron our Little House on the Prarie super-long ruffled floral skirts extra special. Then it was downstairs for the Slip Check TM to ensure we were wearing our magic underwear camisoles and slips so no pubes, kneecaps, or nips would show.
We also had better be wearing pantyhose over our briefs (yes, briefs for ladies--like boxers except they came up to the chest), plus the slip and thick flannel skirt to make sure we didn't have Impromptu Sex TM with a Brother TM or *gasp* a Worldly One TM because of our seduction with Immodest Clothing TM . (Yes, even 8-year-old girls can cause men to have Impromptu Sex TM because of their seductive nature. All girls are like cows!--wt circa 1950)
Then it was to the kh early to get a good parking spot and encourage the Inactive Ones TM with awkward conversations about why they're not attending Meetings TM . Afterwards it was to the ice cream shop for a cone.
The cone was definitely the highlight of the entire year. That, and buying the half-priced Easter candy the following Monday, when the candy became magically unPaganized TM .

Rebel8, You had KRAFT mac & cheese? I'm jealous. We'd have a knock-off frozen Salisbuy Steak dinner (those trays of mystery meat in chemical gravy) and IGA brand mac & cheese, which was really light on the cheese.
Geez, you had it good.
This Easter, I made a spiral sliced ham. Yummy!

Does anyone know the Willie Tatum mentioned in the article? I went to pioneer school with his daughter in the 90's, I don't think she goes anymore. I don't remember her first name. He used to live in Herndon, VA and had a Latino grocery store. I knew he had moved his family to Florida, it gave me the creeps to be reading something about Florida and see someone's name that I knew. He was really stuck in the wt. Hope his daughter didn't go back. Also, if we had early meeting lots of us would go out to a local restaurant for food. No one ever invited anyone to their house after the memorial, it was a day off!

Awakened at Gilead
This was my old congregation when I was growing up. Wllie Tatum (pic# 1) is the a$$whole PO who I spoke with about my mum a few months ago. Kenneth Cooper is my stepfather (pic#5).
