Snakes, that observation about JW's gone wild is true. I've observed the same among other mentally cloistered groups like Amish when they do rumspringa (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rumspringa). The organization has programmed people to believe that they are either "good" or "bad" and this mind-control is evident when they leave as well. They are still brain-washed. These need to learn how they were poisoned and to re-aquire (likely for the first time) their own, unique conscience.

To put it in JW terms "They need to make the truth THEIR OWN".

The wild behavior is evidence that they do not own the truth as a personal possession, but rather than they were merely tenants in a spiritual edifice from which they've been evicted and the conscience they were given must be returned upon their leaving.

I think JW's go way crazier because they have lived a life of being so pent up and repressed. For instance, you have a 18 or 19 year old son or daughter. Normally the child has went to the little innocent middle school dances, had a boyfriend in high school, you talk openly about sex in the home and about having safe sex. Then I think the normal stages of development would be for them to eventually have sex, hopefully safely. Contrast this with the JW home where the child gets very little experience with the opposite sex, they are made to fell incredible guilt about their sexuality. They are well aware if they deviate from these unattainable standards mom and dad are going to disown them and there is going to be an announcement about them that will spread like wildfire to everyone they have ever known. What a recipe for disaster! The story is so familiar in JW circles that the 20 year old "runs off" with some guy (always turns out bad) and all the poor kid was looking for was a shot at being normal. I tell my husband all the time, look at all the drama we are going to spare ourselves and the kids living out side of the cult.

That is funny. You know this is the one time that the rumor mill in the JW's is most accurate. Your feelings about what happened are only altered if the next needs of the congregation talk is on smoking tobacco or the danger of Ouija boards......unless JW's are allowed to do that now...LOL

Way back when I was just starting to study, there were two pioneers in our congo, 17 year old girls who had quit high school to pioneer. Their parents encouraged them to do so. Both fathers were elders and one of the mothers was a pioneer, so these were "prominent" JW families.

It was early 1975 and they were among many dubs of all ages who gave up school, jobs, careers to devote time to service because the time left in this system was so short.

Within the next year, both girls were DF'd. It seems they had knocked on the door of a bachelor pad where they found "interest" which led, of course, to return visits and things escalated from there. Apparently these clandestine meetings became far more interesting than listening to other dubs explain why the end had not come in the fall of '75 as they had expected. Both of these girls were beautiful and the pride of the congregation. One of them had movie star/model looks and all the young girls in the congo wanted to be her. Shock waves ensured.

One kid's parents quit the organization and tried and failed to start some independent church group and then moved away and were never heard from again. The other couple hung in there, but the father "stepped down" from his elder seat and the mother died a few years later after becoming ill. Several elders moved out of the congo within a few years. Perhaps they got tired of explaining how two families, and especially two pioneers, all "filled with holy spirit," were so easily derailed from the straight and narrow.
