Why all the hassle and expense for a picture? They should just photoshop a damn photo of an airplane in front of whatever they need.

Confidential sources close to the White House have confirmed that President Obama was indeed on Air Force One today as it attempted to land in New York, but the flight was turned away three times by ground fire originating from Bank of America shareholders.

What was the photo shoot all about that it had to be done in this manner in this place? Idiotic, imo....all the way around.
Well, yeah, I agree that it was dumb. But it is exactly the way most professional ad people and photographers would approach the task of making a good picture of AF1 with the NY skyline. It's not even a little bit remarkable until you throw what happened on 9/11 into the mix. It may have been just one of 10 locations they planned on shooting. Apparently someone coordinating for the FAA and the DOD told the NYC authorities not to inform the public (of course that's just the early story, so it may not be accurate). Why they did that, and why the NYC authorities didn't tell them to "F/off, we have to inform the public", is where the ball was dropped in this event.

Ok, the latest news I heard is that it was a scheduled training mission, that some knucklehead decided would be good to do in NY. The Mayor's office was told, as were the police. No one bothered to tell the Prez or the citizens. Reportedly Rahm is livid and Caldera may not have a job tomorrow.

I think if you lived or worked in that area, it would be unnerving. I think New Yorkers have full grown balls.

CBS 2 HD has discovered the feds will have plenty to question.
Federal officials knew that sending two fighter jets and Air Force One to buzz ground zero and Lady Liberty might set off nightmarish fears of a 9/11 replay, but they still ordered the photo-op kept secret from the public.
In a memo obtained by CBS 2 HD the Federal Aviation Administration's James Johnston said the agency was aware of "the possibility of public concern regarding DOD (Department of Defense) aircraft flying at low altitudes" in an around New York City. But they demanded total secrecy from the NYPD, the Secret Service, the FBI and even the mayor's office and threatened federal sanctions if the secret got out.
