You just have to know and believe in your product.

That works great if you have an excellent product with a proven track record. It's like being a BMW car salesman versus a Yugo car salesman. BMWs pretty much sell themselves because of the quality, workmanship and sporty appeal. Yugos, well, you pretty much had to bullshit your way through that sell.

edited to add: of course if you believed that Yugo was a better car, I guess it wasn't technically lying, just not properly informed and out of touch with reality...kind of like JWs trying to sell the WT religion...

That's whay there are not a lot of BMW sales locations. The product sells itself. No need for another go between.

A good JW is a good salesman.

I handle a wide variety of product so when a customer calls he either knows what he wants or he doesn't. When he doesn't I have to offer or suggest something that'll work for their application or I have to engineer something that will work for them.

I think I recall reading on here and perhaps other ex-dub boards that one of the major pluses of being a dub was learning public speaking and sales.

I do know, personally, off the top of my head, 7 people who are JWs and who are in sales making a living. From cars to transportation to insurance. While I hesitate to call them crooks, I would not do business with any of them. And my dad was one of them.

    Interesting Quirky.

In as long as I have been on this board, I have been inpsired to make actualy changes in life. One of those things - my career. I went for 2 Job interviews yesterday and they are both outside sales positions.

What do ya sell Quirk? Ice cream? :p

Essentially, all practicing JWs are nothing but uncompensated salesman.

My sister's father-in-law was a car salesman. He was one of the more polished looking people at the hall. Hair always neat and trim, nice suits, nice car. He was a good speaker too. Kind of like a televangelist. I don't recall him having any bible studies, so I don't know how good he was at preaching. I was still pretty young when he moved out of state though. I kind of got the feeling he'd rather be the big shot than do the work.

In my dad's secret elder meeting minutes notebook, I found it took a while to consider him as elder material though because of family problems. Eventually he made elder. His sons were still having issues, but were adults.

Most of the elders that I knew were in sales.

Cars, pots and pans, insurance, building supplies, trucking.

And more often than not they gravitated to the positions of leadership.

Being a JW is about the same as the "Amway" multi-level marketing without the L.O.C.

Sell your friends and family on the concept and it matters little how good the product is!

The rank in ADA Michigan benefit from the folks working the public for Amway while those in New York are supported by Witness sales men and women in the field ... about the same to me.
