I hope you are being facetious to make a point, but why don't you ask any of those faithful Witnesses who do not have a retirement fund how far they think $250k would go?

Sorry, I meant it's a drop in the ocean to the borg. Obviously to the people they discouraged from saving for the future, it would make the world of difference.

I'm watching my own father work himself into the ground in his old age thanks to a lifetime of "Armageddon will be here any day now" so I'm not ignorant of the issue.

A fairly standard practice among most religions. On the plus side, at least the Watchtower doesn't enforce the tithing that is endemic among some of the stricter fundamentalist groups - relatively poor members on limited incomes "pressured" into giving 10 percent of their income to the church.

Outlaw was using the Biblical formula of a month for a week.

My Mom showed me her will about 10 years ago; I am the executor. Everything was divided 50/50 with my sister.

She showed me her new will last year. I am still the executor, however, she now has left the Society 15% of everything. She made me promise that I will honor that. I had to not gag as I said of course I would. That is approximately $150,000. She may have upped it.

The WB&TS doesn't have to tithe, because the members are pressured to produce, distribute and purchase the products of its publishing company, n matter what their income level. And, of course the members with a couple of bucks are expected to provide monetary contributions.

The ones that are donating houses and property are Witnesses who have been active for many, many years, decades.

So their property is sometimes worth A LOT. One of the older sisters that said she put the Society in her will bought her home with her husband 40 years ago at $20,000. Now it is worth $750,000, even in today's market.

All that dinero going to Bethel....

That statistic will die-off in the very near future...... well at least in Westernized nations.

If all JWs totally obeyed the WTS, they wouldn't ever have enough money to purchase property or house of their own.
