Most of what Christ is ALLEGED to have said in the Gospels is inspiring to me. However, as I have posted on other threads, we have no way of knowing if this fellow really existed. And the way he is portrayed is awfully one sided and I have a feeling there is a lot more to it. I have no need for Christ to be a moral person.

I think of him in the same context as prince charming.....sleeping beauty.....cinderella....

    They all make bedtime stories.

There may have been a man named Jesus. But his legend is likely far greater than his teachings or his deeds.

I think that most people who think they worship Jesus, actually worship Paul. They are Paulians not Christians. Paul spent many pages defining just what Jesus stood for. Jesus never wrote a single word that we know about. And Paul and Peter and particularly Mark, who wrote the major portion of the NT, never assembled a single word about him for many years after his death.

It is easy to create a story after the principle of the story is dead and gone. You can make him into anything you like. Then later the Church Bishops can sort out all the writings and compile a nice little canon that fits a few preconceived notions and call it the HOLY BIBLE.

I think Jesus was likely a hater of the Romans. He had some wisdom [unless it was borrowed from others]. And he died due to his sins against the Roman Empire. From those bones were constructed the legend.

Jeff you are right. I told my quasi JW wife the other day that if I had to take anything from the fairytale book known as the Bible it would be the gosspels and nothing else. The words of Jesus, wether he existed or not, are common sense reasonings. Xians go with the Pauline aspect and completely shit can the words of Jesus.

Don't be ashamed of Jesus. As Jeff mentioned, "his legend is likely far greater than his teachings or his deeds."

People don't really know the truth of Jesus. Here's my take from my personal research (granted, from rumors and archaeology that is incomplete).

Jesus spent some time in Egypt learning philosophy and religious thoughts. Jesus came back to Galilee and became a disciple of John the Baptist. Rebels told Jesus they wanted him to play the role of Messiah to lead the revolution. His peaceful message and his speaking ability seemed fit for the job. He actually rode into Jerusalem on an ass, highly staged. He said great things that people wanted to hear. Sometime along the way, he figured out that the rebels knew he would be put to death by the Romans. He tried to save his own skin by saying to pay back Ceasar's things to Ceasar- obey the Romans, and obey God. Too late. He was already targeted.

If he didn't marry, Jesus enjoyed Mary Magdeline's company. He didn't hide their relationship. He may have even had kids, but I doubt it. He said near the end of his life that he was a son of God as everyone is a son of God, but he had already claimed messiahship and become a target for the crucifix. The Jewish leaders didn't care for him, so they offered no protection or defense and the Romans took him.

James, his brother tried organizing the Jesus followers after Jesus' death. Paul started a rival Christianity. They were like competing evangelists because the demand for new exciting revolutionary talk never really died just because another so-called messiah was put to death. There were others. Between all of Jesus' disciples and the John the Baptist movement which pretty much joined the Jesus movement, the Way or Christianity kept getting bigger and bigger.

Jerusalem fell. The Jews were devastated. No matter which path won out, Judaism and Christianity had to be re-invented. Judaism managed to become a religion of rabbis instead of temple priests and had the hope that Jerusalem and Israel would rise again. Christianity said that their messiah had prophecied the destruction of the temple and how it was to be abandoned to this new religion. The stories were gathered and written about the messiah. Stories borrowed from mythologies.

Clever writers decided to make the OT prophesy the Messiah.

Constantine decided to merge the Isis worshippers and the Mithra worshippers with the Jesus worshippers by incorporating all their ideas and stories that didn't fit the new doctrine were forbidden and burned. Christianity was chosen because Mithra worship was for men, Isis worship was for women, but neither was for both. Christianity was for both, and Jesus could be just like Mithra with his mother being just like Isis.

Thanks for letting me explain Jesus to everyone. Many of the details are still developing and subject to complete re-writes.

    "Heard alot about this Jesus

A man of love and a man of strength

But what a man was two thousand years ago means nothing at all today

He could of told me about my higher self

But he only lives inside my prayers

While he once may have been beautiful...

The pain is right now and right here"

    Sums it up for me...

Passwordprotected, why are you trying to deflect possible criticism or negative remarks about Jesus? I and others are more familiar with Jesus than with Mohammed. Those who are ex muslim are more familiar with the Quran than we so I leave any criticism to them.

As far as the Gospel Jesus is concerned he called a little girl a dog because she was not an Israelite. (Matthew 15:21-26)

He cursed a fig tree for not having fruit out of season.(Mark 11:11-15)

He cursed entire towns for not believing in his miracles.(Matthew 11:20-24)

And there are many other contradictions that make it impossible to tease out the real Jesus-and yes there was a real Jesus because religions like this need a charismatic leader to start them. Then when their leader dies they get mythologized. Charles Russell was already being deified two years after his death in The Finished Mystery book.

Nicolaou, I noticed you used F$%# in relation to Jesus.

Would you object to someone using that word with relation to your mother?

    Or you wouldn't mind?

    Curious,

    BF
