Witnesses show a lot of love and attention to newbies. They want you to be convinced that they're the people who show love like Christ did because that, according to the Bible, is what Christ said would identify his followers.

The love is conditional, however. If you don't wholeheartedly accept every teaching of the WTS or question their basic doctrines strongly, watch how quickly that will be withdrawn.

What Witnesses are told to do is to end a bible study that doesn't "progress" after a certain period of time, because they're looking for people who will eventually become baptized members who will then be under the authority of the congregation and the WTS.

When you become a Witness, every facet of your life, what you do for entertainment, what you do sexually, what you read, what you wear, who you socialize with and what you think will be under scrutiny by the body of elders and others in the congregation, self appointed police that report your every failure to comply to the elders. If you deviate from what the WTS "recommends" in all those ways, you will be criticized "loving counsel" it's called, but people will start shunning you socially as "bad association" if you do not comply. Since you've been told not to associate with non Witnesses anymore if you become a Witness, Witnesses will be your only friends now, and if they cut you off in any way, you will feel the punishing aspect of being shunned, even if only in degrees.

That is the essence of the hold they have over followers, isolation and social control. Please read the 8 signs of mind controlling cults by noted experts in that field that have been widely published on the internet. Witnesses fit all of them to some degree and some of them fit them completely.

I can't cut/copy/paste here or I'd list them for you, but you can Google it quite easily.

If it is a guy who is studying with you and he does not bring along a sister...you need to know this. He is totally out of line with the Jw directions...no male should study alone with a female....forbidden. Sooooo he either fancies you and is trying to get around the rules or he is not a fully indoctrinated witness. Interesting. If he brings a sister and it is not his wife or fiancee then he is still on rocky ground according to the society. Of course maybe he is 85 or something...then its ok (haha).

Re: handle - my first name is Deepti (female) and "moo" comes from my family name.

Nice to meet you Deepti, my name is ...............

Did you notice, that many on this forum would like, but are not able to present their name? What a freedom you have still! Freedom to discuss your opinion, ask any questions, present your ideas without fear .... freedom to present your name on this board! Without fear of being emotionaly blackmailed, threatend, loosing relations to family members...

Just to give you an idea: If I would have put my real name here, in few days JW who spy here would inform about me being here elders in my congregation. They would invite me to a judicial commitee meeting, disfellowship me for "apostasy" (just for reading this site) and announce me being disfellowshipped in Kingdom hall. From this day I will not be able speak with my family, including wife and children (except for "necessary and serious family matters"). I will not be able to read the Bible with my son - it is forbidden for JWs to read it with poeple who left..... Wy wife and son will be regularly checked if they dont break this rule ... If my son is getting married he will face the option to invite to his wedding me, or other witnesses, so it could happen I will not be invited to my sons wedding ... And so on....

For this reason I cannot tell you my name ... but I can tell you: Keep your freedom and protect it! Have discussions with JWs, study ... (if you like it..) but under no circumstances get baptized!

    Welcome on the board

    Albert

    Hehehe... @ everyone's comments!

@chicken little: Guy whom I study with - sometimes his wife or sister comes along. Once it was another married guy. Once or twice it was him alone. It doesn't bother me at all.

@Witness 007: I must say that JW women are mostly really beautiful. Unfortunately, I have a boyfriend and I'm female. (I like to think I'm bi-curious, but that is only a fancy)

@Albert Einstein: The lack of last name isn't about being on a JW forum, it is being on the internet in general :) I'm not a fan of revealing extra-personal details on the internet. I do have a facebook page, but now I regret having it at all - wayyy too open! Even though the only people I have on there are people that I know and have met.

The disfellowshipment is pretty bad though. I was talking to a lady in the congregation about it. One of her closest friends was disfellowshipped and she was sad about it - but kept repeating to me how the things the other girl did were "bad." When I questioned her about where she got all this information from, she says - "everyone in the congregation knows." Me - mouth hanging open! She's cut off this girl because of gossip and rumours :(

Even before I joined this website, I knew I would never become a witness. The idea that an organisation has absolute control over my life doesn't sit right with me But I do love the personalised bible study! Tomorrow's the next one - I am looking forward to it! Yay!

My advice to you is stop the study... You are very slowly having your mind taken over
I did it to 10 people. The very same thing happend to the JONESTOWN cult & Koresh.
I did the deceitful love bombing. This is NOT a man made religion. It is directed from
the Devil...I really & truly believe this

Of course they are lovely people do you think the Devil would use drug addicts,
murders, theives to knock on your door.??????Of course not he chose the cream of the crop
kind loving people, who can become robots for HIM. Taught them how to be truly trained
as anything can be after awhile, be it man, woman, dog etc:

You do as you like but as a FRIEND I am advising you to steer clear of their BOOKS!!!!

Your in GREAT DANGER with an IROn fist in a VELVET GLOVE!!!!

    Welcome, deemoo.

Please look on the site Freeminds.org to find out all about the quirky beliefs of Jehovah's Witnesses over the years.

I was a JW (my husband was an elder for twenty years) for over thirty years but never knew that at one time they taught that vaccinations were "like taking pus into the body." Or that for years they said organ transplants were cannibalism, then changed that view later. Too bad for the ones who died refusing a transplant.

I also did not have any idea that the year 1914 (they state that this is the year Christ returned invisibly) was originally "inspired by" the first WTS president from measuring the steps of a pyramid in Egypt.

Over the years, the WTS has had various dates that were to fulfill prophesy-for instance, the year 1925. In this year, several of the figures in the Bible from the "Old Testament" were to be resurrected, and the WTS president at the time had a mansion built for them in San Diego. He had two 16 cylinder cadillacs at the ready. Of course, he could drive them and use the mansion until such time as they "appeared."

Yes, please do lots of research and innundate the study conductor with "interesting questions."

Let us know how this progresses. I can't wait to hear some of the answers!!

    Hi again Deemoo,

Here are some questions I asked a ministerial servant and never got any answer:

    1. False Prophecies (yet claim to be Jehovah’s prophet)

    2. Doctrinal Changes(yet claim to be spirit directed)

    3. Do not take care of ” widows and orphans”

    4. Do not baptise into the name of the Father Son & Holy Spirit.

    5. Tamper with text of Bible(i.e insertion of “Jehovah” in Rev. etc.)

    6. United Nations association (with lies after event)

    7. Paedophile cover-ups(should not Spirit have directed them?)

    8. Shunning of family members (D.F’d)[scriptural basis?]

    9. Doctrine of Faithful & Discreet Slv.

10 1914--- what scriptural proof is offered for the thousands of times

they claim this is the year Jesus set up kingdom?

    Sorry about the font !

    It's a bit shouty!
