    USB turntables are available now.

I haven't tried one yet. I have a lot of vinyl, some of which is difficult or expensive to find on CD.

All of my CDs are ripped to WMA and reside in a laptop hidden away next to a large amp. It can be controlled from another laptop so that I don't have to get off my arse couch.

    Cheers

I still buy CDs, however I mostly buy them used. The problem I keep running into is my musical tastes are always exploring music that can only be "imported". I absolutely refuse to pay $30 per CD. The artists that I cannot buy locally get downloaded.

I also still buy other formats, mainly LPs and 8-tracks. I rarely buy cassettes anymore unless it's something rare.

As for MP3s, I usually encode my own. 224kbps is my happy medium for bitrate. Its' not the space-consuming 320, but it's not the watered-down sound of 128. For downloading artists that are hard to find, I'll take what I can get.

    Some recent albums I've bought:

Honeymoon Suite - Clifton Hill (brand new)

Romantics - What I like About You

    Green Day - Shenanigans

That Dog - Totally Crushed Out

    Frente! - Labour of Love

    Some that I recently downloaded:

    Shampoo - Absolute Shampoo

Hollies - Confessions of the Mind

McAuley Schenker Group - Perfect Timing

    Altaria - Divine Invitation

At 320Kbps, it's the cymbals that I notice. They loose their brightness. Cymbals are really hard for the encoder to convert -- I used Audiograbber with the lame (the real name) MP3 encoder -- which may be my problem..

Oh, I used to have a bunch of vinyl albums, but over time I replaced most of them with CDs. I traded them in a couple years ago to a second hand music store except the ones with sentimental value.

Nosferatu - I have the same problem with Imported CDs - the cost is definitely a deterrent - It seems that most of the Music I like now is from Finland, Austria and not anything produced in the US.

I think the new music produced here in the US has lost it... Of course I’m not in the current Pop or Rap which seems to dominate the music world today. And what’s this with Country Music’s conversion to “Southern Rock/Pop”??

About the only time I buy CDs is if it's a local artist I want to support. Or occasonaly as a gift for someone else.

You can't beat having something physical in your hands,I feel as if it's money well spent. I still buy vinyl,CD's and ,Shock ,horror, cassettes!!!!! I have downloaded some stuff but only to see if I like it enough to go buy the album.

I have a USB turntable,it is really good. You can put the music on your computor then transfer it to CD and even get rid of any bumps or scratches that the record may have picked up along its lifetime.

I love rooting through old record stalls, charity shops etc searching for interesting records to buy.............and e bay..............well they saw me coming!!!!

I think I really should get a USB turntable.....that sounds like a great idea. Plus I have my mom's demo recording that I would love to finally hear. And my bf has super rare recordings of radio shows that his dad made in the 1940s. Plus I could finally get Stadium Arcadium in potentially better-sounding vinyl.

I still buy CD's for the music I am really interested in as MP3's just dont do it for me on my hi-fi system. However, I do like mt IPOD for when I do my exercise. I also have about 3000 vinyls from "back in the day".

I buy used albums and CDs, and occasionally from iTunes. There's very little new stuff I'm interested in though.

I still do even though I am buying songs from time to time with itunes. I like to read about the album, and I like the sound better. Just bought Dylan's new album last week and it is just awesome.

    Old habits hard to break.
