I don't see anything shocking in those lyrics?

    Let's take one example...

Cause I’m bluffin’ with my muffin
I’m not lying I’m just stunnin’ with my love-glue-gunning

I think Lennon is rolling over in his grave. What has happened to great lyrics? I guess execs have figured out that enough of today's young ones don't care about quality or real talent, much less genius.

Andy just said to me about the quoted lyrics : "They're shockingly retarded."

Oh come on fhn, remember living in a yellow submarine? There has always been retarded music, there has always been good music. I get sick of revisionist history.

John, there is a difference between truly talented musicians recording the occasional whimsical song and no talent pretty boys and girls recording nothing but crap and being foisted on the kids of today in disproportionate numbers. Kids today deserve better, readily available choices.

Revisionist? Did I state that there was no bad music during the era of the Beatles? Sure there was. Fortunately there was mostly very good music and it came out everyday. There was never a lack of damn good music playing on the top 40, commercial stations. Today? Your average kid tunes into mostly garbage on TV and the radio.

And you think your parent's generation didn't make identical comments about your music? Have you thought about how many people said Elvis was absolute trash?

I've seen studies that suggest people almost always prefer the music that played during their youth. Has nothing to do with quality. About mostly good music coming out every day (back when you were a child and dinorsaurs walked the earth and school was 2 miles uphill through the snow both ways), don't make me pull out some popular trash from that era.

This is true...at least for me - I love alternative music from the 80's and 90's and I'm quite fond of disco and r&b from the 70's.

But I like new music too - to the chagrin of my kids

JOhn, I walked two blocks and rode my bicycle to school in subtropical S.E. Louisiana. It didn't snow once the entire time I lived there. As a child I loved Swing era music. I loved classical music. I loved the music my children, your age roughly, loved. They were teenagers during the 90's and early 00's. Today we do hear a little bit of music that we like. Chris Cornell and others have put out some good music. There isn't enough good music today because Clear Channel owns the majority of big, influential radio stations.
