Look at the lyrics of the top 40 songs 1930-1998.
There isn't enough good music today because Clear Channel owns the majority of big, influential radio stations.
I think there is alot of great new music out now, IF you think you are going to find it on the radio, you are using the wrong source. Been that way for a long long long time.
Purple, where do you think your average kids are going for their music today?
the internet?
My point is, that kids today listen to the radio and watch TV for their music. You have the occasional kids who will look to Indy stations, but generally, they are into high school and in the minority.
My grandson is 13. He looks at youtube all the time. But he looks for groups that are popular on the "alternative" radio station here in Grand Rapids. I have influenced him to at least listen to the station that plays 80's and 90's and today, when I am in the car.
there are music channels on tv but they're few...hell MTV doesn't even play music anymore. I bet most kids who are listening to radio are tuning in to the college stations, youtube, and iTunes or whatever MP3 site they download from
Kids are exposed to so much more music today than we were as kids. They have the internet and TV, when we were growing up we had RADIO and word of mouth.
I have learned allot about new music from kids, as I was still looking for the radio as my sole source for music.
I think you are believing what the mainstream media is putting out.
Anyway, as far as shocking lyrics, sometimes I get a little shocked at how sensitive the lyrics are of some kids.
Not every kid is into rap and not all rap is bad.
There is just so much out there, more bad and more good.
I love the music from my youth but I have come to love whats out now too.
Mrs. Jones, you are helping me make my point. When we were kids. When my kids were kids, they could tune into top 40 radio and hear a lot of good music. Now if they tune into top 40 they get Lady Ga Ga and they get American Idol. They don't get Beatles, Led Zeppelin, The Four Tops, Sam and Dave, or even Nirvana and Pearl Jam of the 90's. Top 40 radio and MTV of today are mostly Clear Channel formula "happy meal" music.
