Well, I've got my skillet in the oven now smothered in bacon grease, and damn if it ain't getting smoky in here! Guess I'll see how this seasoning stuff works.

I have some cast iron frying pans. They're among the handfull of things I brought out of my failed marriage. I don't know if my ex ever "seasoned" them, whatever that is. I just wash them in soapy water, rinse them, and dry them. That's it.
Am I doing something wrong? They're clean, and everything I cook in them tastes fine.

I don't have any cast iron cookware. What advantage does it have?

Good heat-retention that results in even cooking ...
Some of the iron leaches into the food being cooked ...
Durability ...
That's all I can think of right now.

Put castrol gtx straight 30 wieght on between usages. It penetrates the pores and stops corrosion.

Also, soap can't touch it.

Nothing browns foods like cast iron. Plus, it's not unusual to have 100 year old cast iron cookware that's still being used. It gets passed from generation to generation.

My dog passed iron once. They swallow everything.
