Always, always always hated the criticism of intelligence. As an atheist right now, I don't even understand what "pride" as a vice is. I think it's almost meaningless. One can have a hystrionic character disorder, but in general I don't believe self esteem is as problematic as rationality.
This is a way to cause people to under-rate their own thinking and subject themselves to the bad ideas of other humans. Never trust those who ask you to quell your disagreement on principle.

Well I know my sister in law "home schooled" her kids and they were all "ahead of the curve" and whatever. So now those brilliant kids are still living at home, not going to college, playing video games and going to meetings and working with their dad in his JW car detailing business. My guess is they will still be living with mommy and daddy until theyre 40.
Yep..being smart and being a JW is a BAD combination according to the Borg. Cant have you goin and THINKIN now yknow.

my experiences totally go against that. ive met a LOT of smart people in the org, even being out of it, i look back at them and realize YES they were pretty damned smart, even though i hated some, ok many things they did to me and others....
being involved in the witnesses does not imply lack of intelligence... i mean i guess if it makes you feel better, you can believe that....

I like this that you said:

good assessment. There were a lot of smart folks in the borg but most times their minds were wasted because they didn't allow themselves to excell. Shame!

Remember, I live in WT Fundieland. [Like Disneyland, without the happiness.] My experiences were not of the "run-of-the-mill dubbie" variety.
Here the tone was against academic achievement, but everyone was ever-so-proud when their kids were permitted to graduate early. They looooooved saying how their kids were serious about their schoolwork and didn't goof around like the other kids, that's why they were ahead of the rest. (Funny, they never mentioned that their kids took a lot less classes than the other kids, and not the difficult college prep courses either.)

ITA. Pride is neutral. Hystrionic or narcissistic personality traits are character flaws, but not pride, IMO.

People that work extra hard or that are extra intelligent, and use it properly, should in fact be proud. Whether you are pushed up a grade or put in extra advanced classes, it is an accomplishment.
What happens is that, if someone is placed ahead of their age in science and math, sooner or later they are going to out-think the Filthful and Disgraceful Slavebugger. If they hold them back, they will get less opportunity to learn ahead of this organization and think themselves right out of being Jehovah's Witlesses.

WT Fundieland. [Like Disneyland, without the happiness.] --- love it! did that make the Apostate dictionary?
Aren't jw parents 'proud' of their kids when they 'comment' or do a talk or other dubland duty? Pride is pride, I would think they shouldn't feel pride at a childs acomplishments within the jw ranks as they are only doing what is required or expected of them right?
Damn bunch of sickos, not allowing a childs gift take them as far as possible and not allowing natural affection and pride in a child.
