From what I have seen, the 'members only' editions all have the same cover, the 'general public' edition has the look with pictures and some kind of a 'hook' phrase to catch a potential readers attention.
Do the witnesses even read the public edition wt?

Ah - so the 'study' edition is 'plain'? Is that to save on printing ink or to give it a more 'academic' appearance (JWs are easily impressed)?
