What was the stupidest advice you ever taken from the Kingdom Hall?

A circuit overseer told me, "Only the married brothers can hug the sisters at the Kingdom Hall. The single brothers can't. It's because the married sisters don't expect anything other than a hug."

    True story.

Marry only in the lord and never break the marriage arrangement. 20 years of sheer HELL...Thank god for alcohol and perscription drugs to get me through.

Got rid of the husband and religion... and what do you know....the alcohol and drugs went too.

But then i went to a convention and they read a scripture about fornicators burning in the lake of fire and sulphur, and as a result i stood her up :(

Really? I thought the dubs didn't believe in any after-life punishment, just eternal sleep for those that die before the big A.

Well yeah, but the basic point is, death to sinners, no forgiveness.

Didn't appeal to me, but i was suckered into it :(

I just thought of another really stupid thing I was told. Recovering from a miscarriage, my wife and I were corrected when we expressed our hope in seeing our lost child in the resurrection. We were told by two elders, "no Sara will not be resurrected, she never took her first breath, so in God’s eyes she was never a living soul”. L

    Bastards!

That even though God in Heaven could not control his spiritual creation (Satan) and thus sent him to mess up the earth by doing battle with humans (now that's a great matchup!), it was my sole responsibility to prove to the universe that Satan is wicked ... doing so by my conduct and thus accomplishing the task that the Almighty apparently didn't wish to deal with above and had subsequently "dumped" on flesh and blood.

Oh how I wish I was that important!!!

Freeman, I heard the same kind of garbage when I lost my daughter (Chelsea Jane, btw). The question I have now is, if the JDubs are against abortion because life begins at conception, what difference should it make if the baby took a breath? Wasn't she a living soul from the moment of conception?

Freeman, I'm sorry that they put you throught this, my Mother had two miscarriages while i was growing up and the elders told her pretty much
    the same thing.

But three years ago, one of these elders has a daughter who lost her baby at 7 months, and he orchestrated a "memorial talk" at the KH for the baby.
I wouldn't go, because of what he told my mom 38 years ago.

I had purchased amazing seats for a LA Lakers / Pacers game way in advance. I gave them away because of the CO's (Gordan Merrill) visit! I was told to put spiritual matters first. Quite upsetting.
