Passwordprotected, that's a very sad story which highlights the legalism getting in the way of what should have been an enjoyable event for everyone. I think everyone who considers joining should read stories like yours.

Smoking should be a marking offence at worst, not disfellowshipping. It's completely unscriptural to disfellowship and shun someone just for being a smoker. Although smoking is a sin, it's hardly something you should remove someone from the congregation for and shun in the spirit of 1 Cor 5 or 2 John. Classic Pharisaical legalism of harshly adding rules that go beyond scripture.
