My father would tell my mother juicy details of JC's he was on. It didn't seem to bother him to spill the beans on people. Yet, when I caught my father smoking while he was PO of the cong. I was told by my mother NEVER to say anything about it or turn him in. It put me in the biggest quandry, and it felt like the world had crashed down around me. Nothing was sacred when I was growing up and I was embarrassed that I knew so much about others in the cong.

My dad never spoke about Elder business at home. One time, a good friend of mine was publicly reproved. After the meeting, while we were cleaning a local bank, I asked my dad what had happened. He said, "I don't know, and if I did know, my answer would still be I don't know." Some years later I asked my mom if my dad ever spoke about judicial matters, and she said that up to that point, my dad had never spoken about any judicial matters to her.
