Some JWs truly believe and live their faith. But many Witnesses lived double lives or spoke one way in front of the congregation but privately, they were just the opposite.
I knew an elder and his wife who owned a liquor/convenience store. They sold tobacco and lottery tickets but claimed that the real owner of the business was the wife's "worldly" father, which was hogwash.
Were there any real hypocrites that you knew about?
90 percent were - the other 10 percent were struggling, and didn't last long.
Dubs have impossible standards. They want to be perfect before the trademarked new system begins - why, I will never know.
I knew a lot of folks of the hypocritical persuasion. Here are a couple.
A service overseer at the now defunct Foothill Farms congregation who was always telling people to do more in service, criticizing anyone making less than $30,000 per year, and being extremely hard on immoral jw's and not bending at all when reinstatement came about. He was screwing the star pioneer after they had their after-service swim at his trailer park's pool. The pioneer's husband died of cancer after learning of the affair. He also hid a sister from her hubby. They had moved to Sacramento from Canada. One day she vanished after leaving her hubby a note that she had left. She was hiding in the elder's trailer and he was screwing her right in front of his invalid wife. The S O B was the main consoler of the poor Canadian brother. This turd was finally df'd but reinstated after about a year AFTER he married the sister he stole. I think his first wife killed herself....
Same congregation, one of the star ministerials was earning an excellent living and was married to the most drop-dead gorgeous sister I had ever seen until I met my wife. She was not only beautiful but she was also sweet, kind, considerate, and just an angel. He was always smiling it up at meetings and putting on the BIG FACE. But he was rude to everyone at home. A young sister of about 15 years of age was over at his house talking with the wife when he came home from golfing. He asked the teen to help him in the garage and when they got in there he told her to lick his scrotum. He was eventually found to be a drug user and his wife left him because he was screwing all the girls at work.
we had one family in our cong when we were kids, real superstar status, rich, good looking , 2 spoilt kids, yet they used to have their unofficial Christmas when the boys would have all sorts of great stuff that Santa had bought down the chimney for them, yet we got fuck all as kids, and like most of the families in our cong growing up in London in the early 70's when money was tight, yet he remained an elder , had the book study in their house , yet every one knew of this arrangement they did at Xmas,( they called it their family day) they did it for the boys birthdays as well, and also not including the countless stuff they had bought for them during the year as well, fucking hypocrites they were.

Would I start with the cigar smoking blackjack playing elder? The wife swapping elder/pioneer couple? The sheep loving MS?

My problem was the JWs who would take a hardcore stance only on certain issues, such as shunning. When it comes to other issues, they're far more liberal.
My sister-in-law, for example, won't speak to her df'd brother or sister, but will watch R-rated movies, go into bars and get drunk. She's even gone to her office Christmas party.
We had an elder's wife once who slept with some of her husband's Bible studies, his brother, his father and god knows who else. A real nympho. When she was caught having sex in a parked car in a parking lot of a grocery store with one of the Bible studies, she cried rape. Everyone believed it because she was such a social charmer. Later, it came out she was lying and got DF'd all the other stuff was exposed too.She was reinstated pretty quickly, though.
I know the PO of our last congo covered up both his sons looking at porn and shoplifting, never filtered down to the congo. I heard it from "worldly" people.
That kind of stuff goes on constantly among Witnesses, they're only human but trying to be perfect all the time, so all they do is get better at hiding being flawed.

Ita, I don't care that people are hypocritical. Maybe they see the BORG for what it is but can't get out because of family. Plus, a lot of them make things easier for everyone else
It's the ones that are hardliners in areas that they want to be but then go do what they want that are annoying...
