This "generation" is NOT all anointed Christians since 33 CE, but instead all anointed Christians since 1914.

    WOW.

So what were all 100+ thousand faithful, now-non-anointed Christians prior to 1914?

    Chopped liver?

I think the JW answer would be "They are still anointed, and now in heaven, they're just not part of 'this generation' that Jesus mentioned."

Oh, I misunderstood. Thought you were saying, that they said, this pre-1914 group was never anointed at all. Gotcha' now!

Thanks for sharing, I can appreciate how rough it is to sit through all that BS, and your notes help me in dealing with family still in.

If I had to sum up the one point it seems the Org. wanted JWs to go home with it would be this: "Don't think of our past mistakes as a bad thing - think of them as a good thing, as evidence of just how watchful we are."

Barf! I've heard it said in the congo that the mistakes served a useful purpose and were just what the 'brothers' needed at the time.

I know there's an old WT quote somewhere that says something like 'Praise God for the mistake' - can't track it down now.

And here I was cutting my Dad's 1/2 acre of grass with my push mower this past Saturday while he attended the DC in Kitchener, Ontario. Look at what I missed! ( ). He said there were about 5600 there on Saturday and about 25-27 got baptized. That's kind of a small number isn't it? That's less than 1%.

the "good son", yet he really came off as sanctimonious and holier-than-thou.

Sounds like it was an accurate portrayal. Hopefully any 'visitors' caught it right off and ran for the exits. My father has demonstrated this trait in the past. Once was at a family funeral. My brother told him that "Opinions are like assholes... everyone's got one". And then he walked away from Dad. I had to choke back an enormous urge to laugh out loud!

I was recently forced to the latter part of a Saturday DC......

Geoff Jackson made the talk intro-ing the new book sound like it was the FDS class' (modern day apostles) fault for the dates of 1914, 1925, and 1975 versus the R&F.

..... what is up with the two book minimum too?...... (they made me go out several doors for all the copies I wanted!)

Could the hardline approach be cooling off?

Ann, could it be this quote?:

The author acknowledges that in this book he presents the thought that the Lord's saints might expect to be with Him in glory at the ending of the Gentile Times. This was a natural mistake to fall into, but the Lord overruled it for the blessing of His people. The thought that the Church would all be gathered to glory before October, 1914, certainly did have a very stimulating and sanctifying effect upon thousands, all of whom accordingly can praise the Lord - even for the mistake.

From the 1916 Foreword to Russell's The Time is At Hand!

the new understanding of "this generation" proves that the GT is close. This "generation" is NOT all anointed Christians since 33 CE, but instead all anointed Christians since 1914. When the GT comes, there will still be members of that "generation" on the earth.

    Oh gawd,

Give me a freaking break! The light just gets brighter and brigher, don't it???

***** Out of the 6 prayers, 2 began this way (not an exact quote, but the general idea): "We thank you Jehovah, that you have given us our marvelous hope, and we are not as blinded a the rest of the world, wandering about in darkness and ignorance..."

It was just so striking, how the language almost exactly paralleled Luke 18:10-14, you know, the one where the Pharisee prays "O God I thank you that I am not as the rest of men, extortioners, unrighteous, adulterers, or even as this tax collector..."

    ROFLMAO!

    Sir82,

If I ever see you in person, I owe you a flat of beer for going through three days of hell!
