Could we learn something from David?

What can we learn from David when he encountered Saul?

    1 Samuel 24:2-7 says

And Saul proceeded to take three thousand chosen men out of all Israel and to go looking for David and his men upon the bare rocks of the mountain goats.
At length he came to the stone sheepfolds along the road, where a cave was. So Saul came in to ease nature, while David and his men were in the parts of the cave farthest back, sitting down.
And David’s men began to say to him: “Here is the day on which Jehovah does say to you, ‘Look! I am giving your enemy into your hand, and you must do to him just as it may seem good in your eyes.’” So David rose up and quietly cut off the skirt of the sleeveless coat that belonged to Saul.
But it came about afterward that David’s heart kept striking him for the reason that he had cut off the skirt [of the sleeveless coat] that belonged to Saul.
Hence he said to his men: “It is unthinkable, on my part, from Jehovah’s standpoint, that I should do this thing to my lord, the anointed of Jehovah, by thrusting out my hand against him, for he is the anointed of Jehovah.”
Accordingly David dispersed his men with these words, and he did not allow them to rise up against Saul. As for Saul, he rose up from the cave and kept going on his way.

Are there any practical lessons here?

Yes, David was a pussy for not smiting his foe that was laid before him

I guess he was waiting until the time he could have people murdered without getting his own hand bloody.

Yes, David is a wonderful role model. Particularly, we can learn from the
    following account:

"David arose and went, along with his men, and killed two hundred of the
Philistines; and David brought their FORESKINS, which were given in full number
to the king, that he might become the king's son-in-law. And Saul gave him
his daughter Michal for a wife." - 1 Samuel 18:27

I think I'll get me a knife and go woman hunting.

Then, maybe I'll learn something from his affair with BathSheba, murder of
her husband, and the census sin that ended up by killing 70,000
    innocent people.

David does human sacrifice to jehovah because of famine. A good example to follow?

    *** Rbi8 2 Samuel 21:1-9 ***
21 Now there came to be a famine in the days of David for three years, year after year; and David proceeded to consult the face of Jehovah. Then Jehovah said: “Upon Saul and upon his house there is bloodguilt, because he put the Gib'e·on·ites to death.” 2 So the king called the Gib'e·on·ites and talked to them. (Incidentally, the Gib'e·on·ites were not of the sons of Israel, but of the remainder of the Am'or·ites; and the sons of Israel themselves had sworn to them, but Saul sought to strike them down in his feeling jealous for the sons of Israel and Judah.) 3 And David went on to say to the Gib'e·on·ites: “What shall I do to YOU, and with what shall I make atonement, that YOU may certainly bless the inheritance of Jehovah?” 4 So the Gib'e·on·ites said to him: “It is not a matter of silver or gold for us in connection with Saul and his household, neither is it ours to put a man to death in Israel.” At that he said: “Whatever YOU are saying I shall do for YOU.” 5 At this they said to the king: “The man that exterminated us and that schemed to annihilate us from subsisting in any of the territory of Israel, 6 let there be given to us seven men of his sons; and we must expose them to Jehovah in Gib'e·ah of Saul, the chosen one of Jehovah.” Accordingly the king said: “I myself shall give them.”
7 However, the king felt compassion upon Me·phib'o·sheth the son of Jon'a·than the son of Saul on account of the oath of Jehovah that was between them, between David and Jon'a·than the son of Saul. 8 Consequently the king took the two sons of Riz'pah the daughter of A'iah whom she bore to Saul, Ar·mo'ni and Me·phib'o·sheth, and the five sons of Mi'chal the daughter of Saul whom she bore to A'dri·el the son of Bar·zil'lai the Me·hol'ath·ite. 9 Then he gave them into the hand of the Gib'e·on·ites and they proceeded to expose them on the mountain before Jehovah, so that the seven of them fell together; and they themselves were put to death in the first days of harvest, at the start of the barley harvest

I now see that David is one I want to model my life after. I think that the world needs more human sacrifice, adultry, and illegal censuses. Oh and don't forget to snag a peice of holy bread on your way out!

    Lesson learned:

According to the inspired word, it's OK
to scam on the lady next door
and set up her husband for death so you
can continue going next door to do his wife.
At the same time, his God above counted
him in as one of the good guys and continued to
    bless him.

YoYo mama, there is a lesson to be learned here but it's
    about POLITICS.

You see, David was a very wise man who sought to unify Israel.
Many tribes supported Saul even though he was a half crazy
jerk as a king. By refusing to kill him, David figured the Philistines
or age would take care of the problem of getting rid of Saul, so
that he wouldn't be blamed for getting rid of this crazy tyrant
    - by people who still thought Saul was a great guy.

Lesson for us: the organization is ruled by a bunch of isolated,
stiff-necked, half-senile old Pharisees. If we wait long enough,
they'll die off or ruin their own authority by scandal or
inaction. Then, what ever's left may be able to pursue a more
ethical way of life, with love and compassion - and without
    their corrupt interference.

Is this what you were hoping for?

Budda, don't forget though that even though god blessed him he had to teach him a lesson by killing an innocent baby. Bad baby, bad!
