I was accounts servant when the tsunami struck. Our secretary wanted to put aside of the contributions boxes for the R&F to donate money to the R&F in the affected area. This pulled in over £3000. We had a congregation of around 65.
I tried to point out to him and the PO that the Society do not like donations to be sent for specific "causes", but they instead have an account (including a Giro bank payment book here in the UK) for that very purpose. I pointed out that they like to decide where and how the money donated to this "relief fund" gets spent.
As the OP rightly points out, 11 months later this note comes from the Org saying, "please don't tell us how to use your money and please don't specify where you're money is for."
You have to wonder how much cash was sent in for the tsunami relief if our small congregation sent in over £3000. You also have to wonder, given the timeline involved, where the money actually ended up being spent. Lawsuits?
