Maybe do what I do with telemarketers:
Say, "Could you hold on a minute?" Put the phone down (Or close the door).
Then continue doing whatever you are doing.
When you come back, they're gone!!

i did that once to a telemarketer. I came back to the phone and he was s till there. so I told him my husband really wants to buy your product...but he broke hi sleg so it will take him awhile to get to the phone would you please wait for him. next time I went back to the phone he was gone.

i guess he had no respect for the diabled.

I try to be nice, but I guess thats not a good thing.

My Dobe comes to the door before I do growling like a monster dog and I always put him aside and make him lay down.

I should let him continue his job. I am through.

Just yesterday, I went to get gas at the local Mobil a few blocks up....There was a young man pacing in the parkining lot, with his pants down and white undies puffing out of his pants, from the bottom of his cheeks. He was talking on his cell phone. I couldn't figure out how he was walking as his pants were so low.

I wanted to scream at him, pull up your pants you fool, ....but didn't dare. Infact, I was going to pay cash but didn't because he marched into the quick mart portion of the gas station. I fully expected them to be held up by this moron.

They weren't and he and his exposed briefs moved on.

I am now to the point where I am going to have something installed at my front entrance. A nice black wrought iron fence 10 feet from my door. I have an H style home so its only 8 feet across I have to protect.

I have to admit, I will buy anything from little kids, IF they ask me themselves(no sheets left in the breakroom by mommy) and IF I can do it for $15 or less.

I tell everyone else that if I want their product I will call them, and ask them politely to leave while shutting the door.

I had a Schwan's man put his foot in the door once. I looked down at it, looked back up and asked him how he thought the police would view a man trying to forcibly gain access to the home of a young single woman. He turned white, then left. Haha.

I just don't answer the door.

Elsewhere, not answering the door would be perfect, except that I get lots of deliveries for my husbands's business so not answering the door is not an option.

Not much. STEP 1: Politely refuse their offer at first knock and request they leave and not come back.

STEP 2: Firm but insistent on their departure of my property if they persist.

STEP 3: Aluminum baseball bat comes out from behind the door if they continue on past that.

I have had alarm companies and lawn services recently...... not much in my hood. My company wants me to cold sell cable in addition to my collection activities.... unless someone asks me about service or it is a new tenant at a place I am already knocking, I don't do direct sales...

I cannot stand kids soliciting for school. I think that kids should not be out drumming up money for school stuff. Kids should be home doing homework. Lots of homework.

Taxpayers should either vote to foot the bill for their school systems and provide what the kids need OR schools should strip out all but the things required to teach kids the basics and be competitive in the world beyond. (and I love HS theater, music and art programs, etc and think it should be available) ...however, given an EITHER/OR....what I want to see is advanced math, English, reading, etc. being taught.

Kids should not be soliciting for funds.......make the school board and the principals do it.

Restrangled....I know you love your dogs...and they are a protection, but letting them out to run someone off when you can say no and shut your door is terrible. I still have traumatization from dogs in field service. It is very hard for me to control my fear.

To set one on a teenager who is not threatening you is shameful. You may be annoyed, but how does he know you subscribe? Evidently the newpaper is to blame for not giving him a list to work off of. As far as his pants...yeah I find that annoying too. But a simple "I already subscribe, and you might want to pull your pants up to be more professional." would have been enough as you closed the door. You could then call the paper and complain about their lack of informing their sales rep and sending them out in unbusiness like attire, threatening to cancel your subscription if it bothered you that badly.

As for my experience, I hate salesmen too. I had a sketchy one in our neighborhood, and I reported him to the police. They came and took a statement and said they had talked to them a few days ago. They handled the problem for me. The meat salesman, I tried their product and it didn't work out for us that well. The next time, I opened the door before they got on the steps and told them "No thank you. I tried it before and it didn't work for us." They thanked me and left.

You could always say, "Don't waste your time. I'm not buying." Just don't take it as an affront to you personally. These are real people with real problems who are trying in an economy that has sent many to the poor house. Though they are as annoying as flies.

For tellmarketers...caller ID. Register it on the Do Not Call list, or answer, tell them you're not interested and hang up. That's what my dad did. Have you ever listened to Tom Mabe? He pulls a joke on telemarketers everytime they call and then sells the CD's of the conversations! They are hilarious! You could try that if you are bored one day when they call!

Please just reconsider letting the dogs out to scare someone. If your dog should get aggresive, you would be slapped with a lawsuit and may be forced to put your pet to sleep. It's a dangerous and mean game to play when you aren't being threatened.

I can generally avoid telemarketers with caller ID. As for people at my front door, I've really only had two experiences. One was an Obama representative. I didn't mind talking to her because she was brief, I was voting for Obama, and she was kind of hot. The other was a homeless man asking for money. I got rid of him in a hurry by telling him all my money was tied up in liquid assets.
