Tim,
It is not a good thing that those people had to die. But unfortunately it is necessary.
Viewed objectively, it would be hard to decipher who said that... Arabs or Americans. With perhaps less sentimentality, isn't that what Muslim fanatics said when the plan was hatched to destroy the WTC and the Pentagon? What's the difference with THEM saying it and US saying it?
The net result is the same: innocent civilians having nothing to do with the political football paying for it nonetheless with their lives and the lives of their children.
Not trying to start an argument -- I agree with your post -- but from where I sit, your quote above is a feeble argument/excuse. We don't accept it when THEY say it... why should anyone with a global perspective be expected to?

Oh, I feel SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO sorry for them. Typical Hippie shit.
Remember the 11th? I do. So people died in Afganistan. Big deal. Happened every day before the States attacked, and will continue until the end of time. People will always kill each other. But, if the camps are gone, and are limited to small thing as to terrorism, then so be it.
One think Fisk forgot to mention. People won't be getting their feet and hands chopped off in stadiums anymore.

tyydyy,
: I do believe that the number of civilian deaths in Afganistan has probably surpassed the number of deaths on Sept. 11 but I also believe that it's a necessary evil.
I'm in total agreement with you. No one has bothered to mention that the US first asked the Taliban to turn over bin Laden and Al Qaeda, and told them we had no beef with the Afghan people. Had they done that, the Taliban might still be in power there and none of their civilians would have been killed by US forces. They refused. They were DipFucks. They paid the price.
War is not a sanitary business.

Personally I think the war is going great. We did not start this war and we do not target civilians; that is one of the major distinctions between them and us. Civilians die in war, its unavoidable that’s why war is a terrible thing; once again I have to ask what the alternative is; there is none. Every county on this planet has the right to defend itself and so do we. I personally believe that many people in the world like it when Americans die just because we are the most powerful nation at this moment and no matter who is doing the killing and why these people will never support America. I have very little respect for these people who can only see things through their own prejudices.

As a Clinton supporter and an individual that votes republican on occasion I must tell you that you are mistaken about the Dems and freedom of speech. The Democratic (left) is no better at tolerating opposing viewpoints than the Republicans (right). Both sides throw labels at people to attempt to silence them; the left will call people racist, rednecks, and biblethumbers anything to pull the focus away from the argument. The Right does the same thing the words they use will tend to be communist tax and spend democrats, etc, etc.
